    1. [HUNGARY] name change

    3. I had a cousin born in Hungary in 1909 and she was named Gizella. I was born in 1927 and knew her as Hazel. My mother and oldest sister always called her Gizze and I never knew why until I found her record of arriving in this country. Does the name Gizella translate to Hazel? It had to be changed after they came to this country in 1913. Was it just a name she picked for herself? I have no one left to ask. And as usual did not bother when I could have. This is just my curiosity, nothing more. Thank you. Margaret

    3. Margaret, The name Gizike is a diminutive for Gizella and Gizi or Gizzi or Giza a short form of the name or nickname. The name is of German origin (Gisela). In English the name would be (I think) Gizelle. May be someone else can reflect on the Hazel name.
