Dear Bodhana, Thank you very much for the translation. I was hoping that there would be an address in the article to write to either in the Ukraine or in Germany. Since they are dealing with POW related facts, I thought there might be a chance to find the location of the camp and the grave site. I am looking for POW camp # KL. L. 280/20 and gravesite K/M 4/2. I knew about the name change back to the old name from Stalino in 1961. I took me a long time to find out about the Donetsk being the area I was looking for. There were very few references I could find, to the Stalino oblast. Thank you again for your kindness in taking time out to translate the article. Sincerely, Joseph M. It comes at a time when I am writing an article about a Dec. 19,1907coal mine disaster that killed almost 300 people; the majority were Hungarians. I didn't stop to think about the possibility many had just come over that year. Marika
Stalino has been called Donetsk since 1961. Bohdana > Dear List. Could some one translate the article at the following URL. Josef, this is a news item regarding a cooperation agreement between the Security Service of Ukraine and an organization from Saxony working for commemoration of victims of political terror. The work planned seems to concern soviet and german POWs. There is no mention of Hungary or Hungarian POWs. The write-up describes what is being planned to accomplish in very general terms only. Hope this helps, Bohdana > Dear List. Could some one translate the article at the following URL. Go to their place search: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=localitysearch&columns=*,180,0 Find their nearest Family History Center and you can peruse their films to your heart's content (no need to get into 'cash' donations and losses - unless you need later data than the church and civil records provide). They don't have records for Ebergőc. You can try Lőzs for those. Süttör you will find under Sutor. Joe Equinunk, PA - USA jjarfas@ezaccess.net --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by ezaccess.net]

There are no separate 'certificates' the government keeps. Maybe a respective bureaucrat kept tabs as to who was requesting such, but those papers - if exist - are buried in departmental archives somewhere. And if anything useful it might state that John Doe requested this or that on this date and sent to him/her on that date. Have not heard of anybody finding such records - yet. On another list, someone has mentioned that the Catholic Church in Germany issued vouchers to those who fulfilled what is called their Easter duty....meaning in the simplest terms they had received Communion in a certain time frame. Does anyone know if this same thing occurred in Hungary? Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net
When my grandfather born in Hungary in 1879 needed proof of his birth, he wrote to the Hungarian Government and was sent a birth certificate. Have these records been microfilmed by the FHC and how far back do they go? Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net

I've been trying to learn Hungarian, slowly, day by day, but when I received this message I could only read one word, Keresem. I went to the Freelang dictionary and inserted practically all the words from this message which I received from the RADIX forum where I left the name Kondor and the town Nyirlugos. This is my first reply! This is a marvelous, marvelous list and I have received so much help from all of you, but here I am asking for translating help! Here is the message: keresem a szatmari kondor gedeon csaladjat. birtokomban van a csaladi leveltar egy resze (XX.sz-i allampolgarsagi bizonyitvany, roman, magyar hatosagi igazolasok,XIX.-XX. sz-i anyakonyvi kivonatok. szivesen atadnam a csaladnak.
