This time somebody also posted a message there (actually posted the same message twice). Can't tell whether male or female, but goes by the handle of "folti", and spoke thus: Am glad to find your web page. I am also a Schöning. My father was born in county Zala. From 1943 on he lived in Budapest. His parents remained in the village. He had one brother who disappeared in WW II, his name was Ferenc. My father would be 82 now. I am 48 years old and I have an older sister. I live in Budapest. I have a small business. In my pedigree I can go back only to my granddad. I will continue to follow this web site, find it interesting. Greetings from a new Schöning. Joe Equinunk, PA - USA jjarfas@ezaccess.net --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by ezaccess.net]

    1. Benedict XVI Greets Hungarian President
    2. Elizabeth V Cardinal
    3. VATICAN CITY, JULY 1, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI received Hungarian President Ferenc Madl in audience, together with his wife and entourage. After today's private meeting, of which the Vatican press office gave no details, Madl gave the Holy Father an illustrated Bible dated from the 16th century, and a case of red wine. On the bottles was written "Codex Vinorum" (Wine Code). The Pope smiled in amusement when he saw the bottles. Madl, a Catholic, also visited Pope John Paul II's tomb in the Vatican grottoes. About 63% of Hungary's more than 10 million inhabitants are Catholic. The country became a member of the European Union in May 2004. ZE05070102 Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net

    2. If any one is interested in this book and has access to Heritage Quest it can be downloaded and /or printed out. It can also be read on line. It appears to have been microfilmed by FHC as it also gives a reel #. Evelyn

    2. Cheryl and Margaret, I could use such a housekeeper too. It reminded me. I know of a Slovakia born woman who has a tailoring shop in the Pittsburgh area. She is currently looking for someone with a seamstress background. Preferably Slovak or Hungarian. She speaks Slovak and has a family member who speaks Hungarian. Right now, it is hard for one to get a work Visa for exiting Hungary. Does anyone know of any current restrictions for emigrating from Hungary, or any US immigration restrictions from Hungary to the U. S. at this current time? Cheryl, thanks for all the "Pecsi" postings as well as your private help regarding them. Marika Pécsi

My Hungarian born grandfather told me he was in a mine explosion in Johnstown, PA. when he was a young man there. I do not know the dates, but he lived there from 1900 (he was 10) to 1918. Does anyone know about this and when it happened? Someone told me there is a plaque outside the mine today. Any information would be appreciated. Jay Farrell
