    3. Noting recent postings regarding findagrave which coincided with my annual pilgramage to two primarily Hungarian cemeteries in Northern Indiana a thought occurred to me. Through this board I have met several contributors that had interest in this geographic area and I was just at the prime locatons for information... I could have easily procured information while there. Since I checked findgrave and found almost no information, though the cemeteries are listed it appears that this might be a valuable project to be undertaken....my question is would there be a real value to readers of this board if an effort were undertaken to accumulate information on the graves??? by the way, the cemeteries visited were: Sacred Heart in South Bend, St.Joseph County Indiana..(Our Lady of Hungary Roman Catholic Church owned); and Oak Hill Cemetery, Hammond, Lake County,Indiana. any interest? 2. Elizabeth Thank you for your instructions. I have a couple of my people, and when I do a search or the cemetery they show up there, but when I go to the search all cemeteries screen and put in their names and the state the do not come up. Does that take a some time before it will be found from just doing a general search? Thank you. Evelyn

    3. Q. How do I add someone who is buried in a cemetery outside of the United States? A. We are working to make it possible to add records from all countries. This process is far more complicated than we had initially expected. Our new submission form is almost complete. So close, in fact, that we invite you to test it out. You can link to the new form from the submission page. Part of what we are still working on is the ability to add a new cemetery outside the US. At the moment, you can only add names to a cemetery that already exists in our database. This will change soon. Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net

It looks like after that date they will offer access on a subscription basis, which probably still will be more economical than buying the DVD. But the best news is that there are even more databases to access now. I purchased the DVD a half year ago, and while I have used it a great deal, I took a look at the new online set and was pleasantly surprised to find even more there, including a couple of very important entries for my own research. In addition, they can update the site in the future with more databases, which of course you can’t get with the DVD. The search feature is different from that used on the DVD, or on the old free databases. You especially have to be careful about using the correct diacritical marks. However, the way the results are presented is a big improvement, I think. To access the databases you must register first at arcadat@axelero.hu. I merely asked them to register me, and they sent me back a User Name (Az Ön felhasználói neve) and Password (Jelszó). It seems kind of silly not to be able to register online, but that’s the way they want it. The databases themselves are located at http://online.arcanum.hu <http://online.arcanum.hu/> . 3. On the Brooklyn, new York, list we have been discussing cemeteries, finding graves and how some cemeteries are recycling older graves. An idea came up for everyone to utilize the web site www.findagrave.com I have been adding to it for a year now and today edited some previous entries, added new ones and asked questions on entries that could be for my family. Take a look. Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net

    1. RE: [HUNGARY-L] rail lines
    2. Janet Kozlay
    3. The county maps at http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910/turoc.jpg show the rail lines (alternate black and white lines--“Vaspálya“). Surely they would have used horse-drawn vehicles to get to the rail line. I can't be certain about 1900, but 50 years earlier my husband's great-grandfather, traveling from central Hungary, hired a carriage to Abony where he then took a train to Pest. From there he took a steamship on the Danube (Duna) to Pozsony (Bratislava), where he boarded a train which took him to Gensendorf, Oberberg, Breslau, Berlin, and finally to Hamburg. Some of these place names are now obsolete. The best that I have been able to determine is the following: Pozsony - Bratislava SK Gensendorf - Brno CZ Oberberg - Prague CZ Breslau - Wroclaw PO Since he was fleeing from the Austrians following Hungary's loss in the 1848-49 war, he would have avoided Austria at all costs. Otherwise he might have gone through Vienna. If anyone has a correction on these place names, I would very much appreciate hearing. Hope this helps.
