    1. Andre surname
    2. Dan Almashy
    3. I just found a 70 year old lady who is a niece to my great grandmother. She lives in Michigan. Her father (Michael Andre) was about 30 years younger than my great grandmother and he got married a second time when he was 40. What an age span. I guess there were 12 children in the family back in Abara, Zemplin, Hungary and 3 came here to live. The oldest and youngest. I wasn't able to talk long today because she had company for the holidays but we are going to talk again next weekend. She named several related names from the midwest and Chicago so I'm really excited about learning more about my family tree. Looks like all of our roots do intertwine somewhere in the earth. I'll probably be posting these new names soon. Dan (Almasi) Almashy Danville, Va.

    2. Joe Bilcze
    3. I have been looking for the history of my BILCZE family name. I have studiedthe history of Ruthenia (I mean the closest territory of the Carpathian Mountains to Hungary), mostly Ugocsa megye villages of Veritzkee" - Verecze/Verjacja,Veroce and Kiralyhaza , now Korolevo, My grandfather Mihaly and Lazilo migrated from there to Alliance, OH around 1900. Both spelled last name the same. I thought that there may be families who carry this name in this area today. Have come up with nothing. I know they were Magyars, not Ukrainians. It is highly possible that our name comes from the village name BILKE. some possibilities: BILKE BILCZE BILECZ BILKE BILOK BJELEK BILECZ Any info you can share on Verecze? Familiar with these BIL*** villages? I would like to see telephone directories of these areas to see if there are some BIL*** surnames. The Ukrainians are hard to deal with. All phone books in Ukrainian Cyrillic. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance Joe Bilcze Alliance, OH

    1. Housing found for all Hungarians 1956
    2. cheryl BALOG wenberg
    3. The Chronicle Telegram Dec. 22, 1956 Ohio HOUSING FOUND FOR ALL HUNGARINS Lorain- For the first time in many weeks, 81 Hungarian refugees spent the night in the private confines of bedrooms rather than a barracks or just any place suitable for sleeping. The 83 persons, including men, women and children arrived in Lorain yesterday and were taken in by friendly Americans of Hungarian descent or by people who just wanted to give a helping hand. For the many it was probably the first time they had seen the comforts of an American home. Arriving at 2:30 p.m. yesterday at the Hungarian Young People's Society Building at 3695 Pearl Avenue, all the refugees were housed by 9:30 p.m. last night with the help of the members of St. Ladislaus Church, originators of the Lorain Plan for handling refugees, and the Lorain Hungarian Council. Following a dinner at the Hungarian Hall friendly residents of the area responded to an appeal to provide housing for the new arrivals. Within a short time, all the refugees were housed and given enough money to tide them over. St. Ladislaus Church donated $25 for each single refugee, $50 to a refugee family consisting of husband and wife and $10 more for each additional membet of a family.
