I'll do this for the person who needs it and advise how it worked. I can't do it on mine. I'm working with a four year old plus computer and my "clusters", this may also be known as "sectors", are almost gone. Out of 2 million plus clusters, I only have 3000 unused. I'm told by the "experts" my hard drive is wearing out. I have ample memory left, because I only deal with text. Rue the day this computer goes! Marika

Les, Thanks so much for sending the combined lists of diacritical marks for Hungarian accents. I was missing the double slashes. I know a 74 year old Hungarian woman who has translated her English version book into Hungarian. The dear soul typed it on a 1940s typewriter and then went back and put the marks in by pencil. Someone in Hungary edited it using a Hungarian character typewriter. Now, If I can't properly download the Hungarian typewriter to her new computer, at least she can use your list for future minimal typings. Marika
Dear List: Yesterday I found the following paragraph at the site of The Budapest Sun Online of August 30, 2001 at http://www.budapestsun.com/full_story.asp?ArticleID=%7BAA398510C0DD40ACA01F2CB1D3E6428A%7D&From=News. I was not aware that Steve Sisa had died. Does anyone know whether he has and, if so, when? I could not find him in the SS Death Index, and his book, Spirit of Hungary, is still on sale by him online personally.Online address and telephone directories also still list him at the address I have for him. I corresponded with him in the summer of 2001, the first time on July 25, and the second on September 7. I did not receive a reply to my second letter. My husband worked closely with Steve in the 1950s on Free World Review. "The late Stephen Sisa, a Hungarian-American and former editor of the Free World Review (USA), in his book Spirit of Hungary, gives bone-chilling and remarkable details of Suliman the Magnificent’s advance into the south of Hungary." Thanks. Jayne perllan987@aol.com
A much easier way to do this is to use the character map. If you go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, character map. It's much easier than trying to remember which codes to type in. Hi there, I recently wrote a letter to the Ukrainian Embassy requesting the birth record of my ggm, Mary Szabo who was born in Beregszasz on 21.3.1885. She was Catholic. (This really isn't the information I really want -- but it seems a place to start.) I recently received a response to that letter. It was not immensely helpful, but they did direct me to the following website: http://www.ukraineinfo.us/consular/documents.html which I had not been aware of before. My problem now is that they want the required form filled out in Ukrainian. Can anyone help? Thanks, Denise __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! The Hammond Times Indiana Nov. 1, 1935 OBITS "BLIND ANDY", ex tavern owner taken by death The death of Andrew "Blind Andy" VOZAR of 3732 Main Street, in the St. Catherine's Hospital took one of the most prominent men of the city. He was 68 years old. News of his sudden death yesterday shocked many friends and a host of business men among whom the deceased was widely acquainted while he conducted a grocery store at Indiana Harbor. VOZAR succumbed after an illness of only three days. He was in an apparent state of good health despite his age. Born in Chicago, he came to East Chicago, Indiana 35 years ago and retired from active business 16 years ago. The coming of prohibition terminated his successful operation of a tavern here. "Blind Andy" was known to be a jovial character and was always ready with humorous yarns for friends. He received the sobriquet when he lost his sight 25 years ago. His wife passed away in 1912. Your Dobra name is rather common in Hungary. The online phone book (http://www.magyartelekom.hu/fooldal.vm) show over 300 of them. Argyelán is less common, only 33 show, but hard to tell how many still live in county Békés. Joe Equinunk, PA - USA jjarfas@ezaccess.net --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by ezaccess.net]
