    3. Do any one know what the significance would be to a surname prefixed by de? I am researching the sunrame Sumichrast which according to some records is Hungarian, others say Austrian and yet others Czecholovakian.Anyway I recently was searching the name and found some with the name de Sumichrast.     3. And to add fuel to the fire.. In a 1901 News article from the North Adams Transcript North Adams Mass. A portion of the article shows.... "It is true that I am angry with M. De SUMICHRAST, who is, I am told, a Polish-Greek-Armenian-Hungarian, naturalized as an Englishman". I am seeking information on a George THOMAS, b. ~1877, and his wife Agnes nee ZEY, b. ~1877, who emigrated from "Austria-Hungary" with Hungary crossed out by the census taker to the US in 1905 and settled first in the Chicago area where George was a preacher. Family history says that the Thomases were German, living in the Transylvania region and they may have had an association with Franz-Joseph's government or army or they may have been part of a travelling, gypsy-like entertainment group.     3. My mother was told that Jolan was Jean, so it is my middle name. I've heard it might be Jolanda, but I think Jean is used more.
