    3. Yes Elizabeth, I agree with you, I have gotten some of my best info from my postings. Even after several years. So to all.......post post post. cheryl BALOG wenberg ----- Original Message ----- From: Elizabeth V Cardinal To: HUNGARY-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, February 05, 2006 2:52 PM Subject: RE: [HUNGARY-L] Help Ted, I do not know where the civil records are recorded or if they have been filmed but I have recently found out that records exist pre dating those that have been filmed. I have an honest and true third cousin living in Veszprem, Megye that has been able to access the old books some of which have records back to the early 1700's. Property records also exist as well as old Census records. Having had this cousin find me through information I put out onto the net has been a tremendous blessing as every day he sends me new information and lately he has visited the cemeteries and taken picture of old family tombstones. I am not talking from just one village but from several. Moral of the story....put your information on the net...through one of the genealogy programs...you never know who will contact you. I was also blessed with a cousin from a German line finding me and helping me go back a few centuries. Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net

    3. I am researching my ancestors who lived in Ganna, Veszprem County, Hungary. Vital records were recorded in churches up to 1895 and then they were recorded by civil authorities after that year. I have film showing the church records but cannot locate where the civil records were recorded. Can someone tell me where these records are located so I can continue my research? 3. Our first trip we used General Tours. Very satisfied. In Budapest it was just us with the tour guide and a driver. Lots of big tour buses but I really liked our one-on-one tour. And be sure to bring back paprika. It's nothing like the red stuff you buy here. By the way, would you please contact me privately? I have a favor to ask. 3. I found Ann's great-great-grandfather among the Kossuth emigration. His name was Jozsef Tomics. I have privately sent her quite a bit of information about the fate of the group that he immigrated with. He was among those who followed Kossuth to Turkey during his temporary exile there and then immigrated to America in 1851. They were hoping to join the Hungarian community in New Buda, Iowa, but lack of funds prevented most of them from going that far. Janet Kozlay

Here is a web site where you can see the frequency of names gleaned from a 19th century collection. http://www.radixindex.com/surnameindex/surnameindex.shtml But without a place of birth it's hard to locate genealogical data. You can not query the Military Archives in Austria without a proper name and at least the mother's maiden name. If you have any clue whatsoever for his place of birth you can order the the relevant film rolls from LDS for the 'neighborhood' and search through village by village. A tremendous task, but not impossible. Joe Equinunk, PA - USA jjarfas@ezaccess.net

    3. Hi: I am trying to research my Husband’s Great Great Grandfather. He was born in Baranya Megye in about 1820. The problem is I have so many spellings of his name I don’t know which one is even close. I have Joseph Tomas Tomicz, Tomice, Tolmich, Tolmiche, and Talmadge. Do any of these sound like they could be right? We think that his parents were Austrian and Italian. He came to the United States about 1848 and supposedly served in the Austrian military before that. I have heard mention of a war with Kasheau. If anyone has any suggestions on where to look I would appreciate them. Thanks Ann
