Gerald, Go to http://www.bogardi.com/gen/g168.shtml. This is the Radix 1913 Gazetter. Put in <puspo*>, You will com up with a lot of possibilities. I suspect it is some form of "puspoki" (without the "c") Hope this helps! Jerry
Helloagian dear readers. My friend's grandfather immigrated to America in 1921. I found him on the Ellis Island list: Mato Andras born 1890 immigrated with his brother Gyorgy and sister Ilona. The village they left was spelled: Puspocki It lists the family as speakin Magyar but shows Romanian as their race. I am not clear as I cannot find this village in any of the maps. Was the spelling wrong? Does anyone have access to the Radix index showing Mato and/or Puspocki? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Gerald (Dobozy) Kisabeth

LDS has Catholic (film #'s 623346-7), Reformed (624007-8) and Jewish (642952) records. If you know his religious affiliation check the respective film records. Of course if the above Lajos is not your guy, you will have to continue the search. Did you obtain his birth record from his marriage record? Then you should also have his parents' names. Dear Pat, The closest entry I could find was for Lajos Marton who arrived on November 1, 1900, age 18, from Erdőbénye, which is in Zemplen megye north of Tokaj. His destination was Youngstown. Birth dates are a little off, but it still could be the right one. He might have fudged his age when he immigrated, or you may have an incorrect birth year. Actually, it looks like the original age on the manifest said 16 and it was later for some reason changed to 18. He was going to an uncle, whose name is not clear. Maybe someone else could make a stab at it. It might be worth checking out the church records for Erdőbénye. Janet
Hello, I am researching the Surname of MARTON from Hungary, probably from the Zemplen area, maybe from Heves region. Does anyone know any villages where this surname may appear? As yet, I have not found any information on the documents here in the U.S. that would indicate where he originated. I'm searching for a Lajos Marton who came to America about 1901, lived in Scranton, PA for a time, then married and moved to Youngstown, Ohio. He was born on 24 August 1885. Would appreciate any help. Thank You Pat Westcott

Can someone check to see the list is not being perverted for spam? There's probably not a lot anyone can do about it. Someone, who has Joe Jarvis's name in their address book, has picked up a "by-proxy" mail worm, which then sends SPAM to all the people in that address book. It's happening to me. Someone is using my screen name and mailing SPAM all over...I keep getting "the returned mail" or "noreply" or Daemon stuff. When I first started getting them I re-scanned my PC about 20 times for virus's, worms, and spyware with several different programs only to find it clean. The returned mail SPAMs contain an attachment [with an " .mim " file attached] ,,,which I'm told contains the worm...don't open it. I also understand most of the mail-proxy worm files start with "W32" and are hard to catch with regular anti-virus programs. Jack Kovacs I did notify my usual contacts to scan their PCs to make sure they hadn't picked it up.

Hi My Family came from Szerencs, and Tarcal, but I do have family (realated thrugh marriage) living in Miskolc. by the married name of Iklodi, her maiden name was Nagy.f At the time that I was requesting phone numbers in Miskolc was that my cousin was hospitalized in Miskolc with an opertion. I finally got the phone number, which is 00-36-46/417-763 but I still no not know the address of the Hospital.. Would someone plse try and find the name and correct address of this hospital for me, as she will be hospitalized again at the end of the month, and I would like to send some flowers. All I know is that is it called St Peter - Orthopedic division where they do hip replacements. I am off to Ireland on July 21st to attend my only Son's wedding on July 27th, he fell in love with a girl from Ireland and really loves the life led in Europe and has chosen to stay. It is funny how history repeats itself, My father left Hungary in 1930 to come to Canada to make a better life for himself and his family, and now 76 years later, my son returns to Europe to make a better life for himself. We are very happy for him and his bride to be. It gives us a chance to visit Europe more often. While in Ireland we will try and research my Husband's side of the family, which immigrated from Kelles Ireland. Regards, Dianna

My experience was a similar one many years ago: I had established a contact with a first cousin in Hejce and we communicated for a year, but then the communications stopped when they lost their translator. Several years later I wrote a letter to the cousin, enclosed it in an envelope [addressed to the "Pocs Family] , then enclosed the envelope in anoter envelope addressed to the Postmaster of the village. In a few weeks I received a letter from my cousin, who was glad to re-establish contact. In the time between losing contact and receiving my forwarded letter, her daughter, who was in high school had taken English classes and could do her own translations, and is in contact with me via email. Hi The route that I took to contact my cousin in Hungary was to write to City Hall of the village where my cousin was born. Within a month I was contacted by City Hall with her address and phone number. We are first cousins and are only children, and she is the only cousin that I have on my father's side of the family. She had a picture of me when I was l year old and my parents wedding picture hanging in her living room, (through a family fall out no contact was made since l957) You can imagine the emotion that was felt when I first called her. Within 9 months I made to trip to visit her, and since she lives in a small village the whole village knew of my visit. They threw me a party that was more like a wedding. I will treasure this visit forever. We are now in contact weekly by telephone. Another route that I was going to take was to place an ad in the local paper of the village where my cousin was born. The site that I used to find the Email address of City Hall was WWW home pages in Hungary. Good Luck Dianna, Canada
Hi, There are no Konyu (Könyü) Konnyu (Könnyü) listed in Nyírbátor, but there are 22 Kónya and one Könnyű listed in the phone book. If you are interested I can send you the names and addresses of these people and you could write to them. Probably it would be a good idea to make sure of the spelling of the name before you start writing letters. You probably could get the information from the US Government. http://www.archives.gov/research/ Once you're sure of the original name and the name of the place they come from then start writing letters. Anyway, that is what I did. Good Luck, Joseph M. Would writing a letter to anyone with the surname of KONYU, and variant spellings, in Hungary be beneficial? Or would it be better to tie down to a specific area? I'm open to ideas, as I'd like to get in contact with cousins, and share stories.
