Again this was posted last year but I am sending it again because I am sure there are some that did not see it. Also it is very appropriate for the Holiday Season. I am also giving a link to hear a very good video from you tube singing this Christmas song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm_CG_gwiYA Here is the Hungarian and English version: MENNYBOL AZ ANGYAL Mennybol az angyal 1. Mennybol az angyal lejött hozzátok, pásztorok, pásztorok! Hogy Betlehembe sietve menvén, lássátok, lássátok. 2. Istennek Fia, aki született jászolban, jászolban, Ô leszen néktek Üdvözítotök valóban, valóban. 3. Mellette vagyon az édesanyja, Mária, Mária; Barmok közt fekszik, jászolban nyugszik szent Fia, szent Fia. 4. El is menének köszöntésére azonnal, azonnal Szép ajándékot vivén szívökben magukkal, magukkal. 5. A kis Jézuskát egyenloképen imádják, imádják, A nagy Úristent ilyen nagy jóért mind áldják, mind áldják. Angels from Heaven say to the shepherds, "News we bring, news we bring! In Bethlehem, asleep in a manger, Lies your King, Lies your King!" "Though born so lowly, yet He is holy, God's own Son, God's own Son! He comes to earth to ransom and save you Ev'ry one, ev'ry one! Angels from Heaven, Spoke to the shepherds, "Greetings we bring to thee Bethlehem tidings Come from a manger, On this morn, Christ is born." Angels from Heaven spoke to the shepherds, "You will see One who'll be Lord of the future, King and Redeemer, Son of God, Son of God!" I can give it a whirl [email protected] Magda but I am guessing from what you typed LUTHERAN .......( Lutherious ) the name TOTH ( for Tooth ) ......He may have been a Babicsak and the name TOTH was his alias name like as in adoption , or to distinguish from other Babicsaks in the village or something like this tradition - Read from : http://www.iarelative.com/slovinky.htm Regarding the question of an alias or a double surname one finds in the church records: This quote from "In search of your European roots" by Angus Baxter At times, the surname of the wife would be added to the surname of the husband if there were no descendents on the wife's side to carry on her family surname. A friend of mine who is a Byzantine Catholic priest told this to me while I was doing some research. >I was reading my ancestors death record in the Mehtelek Szatmar m >Reformed Church records and I am >wonder what it all means. >His name was Babicsak Janos and he died 6 November 1816. >What I can make out it reads: >Lutharous Tooth Babicsak Janos, he was 60 when he died. In 2002 we stayed at The Pilvax and liked it a lot. It was centrally located (near the Vaci utca shopping district), reasonably priced, the staff was friendly, and they had a GREAT breakfast. Their mak (poppyseed) strudel is to die for! However, there was no elevator. (I believe the law about elevators in buildings does not apply to buildings of 5 stories or less.) And I can't remember whether they had any rooms on the 1st floor. There were some items on display from the Pilvax coffee house period in the restaurant, as well as a large cimbalom which I understand was played at dinner-time. - Elaine E. Hi, I can imagine you are getting a lot of suggestions. Here is one more. Budapesttours.net. They have all kinds of tours and will pick you up at your hotel. Budapest Tours offer cooking class at the Market, Night tours with a restaurant included, Day tours, which I suggest for your wife, they also travel into the country side. I found them to be very good. I usually travel by myself and have had no problem with them. A friend of mine who lives in Budapest told me you will need a permit to travel on some of the highways. I do not know for sure, but it is worth looking into. You will have to get a International Drivers Permit here in the states or when you get there have your own drivers license translated officially. I would not suggest this nor would I know where to have it translated. Do not miss the Danube River cruise at dusk. Budapest is beautiful in the evening. Taking the metro is easy, once you learn which way it is going east or west. Usually there are many steps getting down to the subway and then escalators, which move fast, to take you to the metro. Metros are everywhere. The first metro, the Yellow Line, was the first in Europe. Do not know the date. That is all I can think of now. Except, I would schedule a taxi ride (from the Airport) to your hotel. You can do that on line. It cost about 35 Euro. (Maybe less now). I found it easiest to just take money from the ATM machines. I first bought Euros at AAA. But the Forint is very low now so you should get some good deals. Have a great time, Elizabeth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerald Kisabeth" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 07, 2008 9:41 AM Subject: [HUNGARY] Budapest > Dear members & world travelers, > My wife & I will be making our 1st visit to the home of our > ancestors-Hungary. Gerald, Not knowing your price point, a good hotel to stay at that's in the heart of the action on Vaci Utca (Budapest's main pedestrian shopping district) is likely a good bet. The hotel is the Mercure Budapest City Center (formerly Hotel Taverna). Their site is: http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-6565-mercure-budapest-city-center/index.shtml I haven't stayed there myself but when I was last in the city, I remarked to my traveling companion about how convenient the Mercure would have been for antiquing around central Budapest as it would have served as a convenient home base for excursions throughout the city. In doing a room rate search for the dates you presented, the rooms can be had for well under $100/night. Taxi travel is nearby and the metro is relatively close as well. Parliament is within "walking" distance or a short cab ride. For the money, this would be my number one pick for being in the heart of pretty much everything. Other options include the Intercontinental and the Marriott, both of which are in the vicinity. Staying in the Castle District is going to be pricey however options from smaller panzios/pensions to larger places like the Budapest Hilton et al. If you're interested in being in a more sedate locale, check out the Danubius Grand Hotel Margitsziget or the Danubius Health Spa Resort Margitsziget, both of which are managed by the large Danubius Group (danubiushotels.com). Small treatment/accommodation packages are available and are a good value for the money. I've stayed at the Health Spa Resort (formerly the Danubius Thermal Hotel Margitsziget) and was pleased with both the rooms as well as the bathing facilities. If you're interested in balneotherapy (medicinal baths) either one of these two hotels are suitable. The Grand Hotel is the older of the two for reference. In addition, Margitsziget (Margaret Island) offers a variety of sights and a parklike atmosphere with langos kiosks around every corner. The ruins of an historic convent are also on the island. Keep in mind that access to the center of the city will require a taxi ride but being in the northern section of the city will allow you to visit places in Obuda like the Roman ruins at Aquincum which were my personal fave. Too many things to see and do but Parliament, a little Vaci Utca shopping, a visit to the Castle District (The Royal Palace, Matthias Church/Matyas Templom and the Fisherman's Bastion) are must dos. The zoo, Heroes Square, the Opera and visits to wine cellars are also possibilities. Best, William. <[email protected]> wrote: > From: "Gerald Kisabeth" > <[email protected]> > Subject: [HUNGARY] Budapest > > Dear members & world travelers, > My wife & I will be making our 1st visit to the home of > our ancestors-Hungary. I was reading my ancestors death record in the Mehtelek Szatmar m Reformed Church records and I am wonder what it all means. His name was Babicsak Janos and he died 6 November 1816. What I can make out it reads: Lutharous Tooth Babicsak Janos, he was 60 when he died. Is there anyone I can e-mail this sheet to so they can read it for me? I would greatly appreciate it. Margaret Babicsak Loroff
