Greetings Listers, Unfortunately it looks like one of our members had her e-mail address hacked. As a result, I've switched the list into moderated status of members as well so that we avoid having SPAM messages such as this reach the list. Please be sure to delete, never click on any links... if ever unsure - always ask and double-check. I won't quote the original message so that the link is not posted what would be the third time... suffice it to say, it's the e-mail from HUNGARY-L that came in today January 22. Thanks, William.

Querying FS for individuals with a last name of Dumtsa, a birth year of 1844, a birth country of Hungary and a marriage country of Austria[1] yields, amongst others, a marriage[2] of a Maria Constance Dumtsa and a Charles Francis Noble Hall on the 17th of November 1866 in Vienna, Austria. When I query FS with for the name of Maria Constance Dumtsa with a birth country of Hungary and, given that the information you provided seems to suggest you're not sure about her date of birth, a birth year between 1830 and 1850 it yields the following results[3]. Hi Kim, It's been difficult, either to find an already translated into English version of something, or even just Hungarian funerary literature that isn't extremely lengthy. This particular sermon is the most famous and ancient example of a Hungarian funerary sermon and prayer from back in the 1100s. It's not specific to Reformed/Calvinist Hungarians since it's before the Reformation, and it does mention St. Peter but it might be useful. Has the Hungarian and English translations but is lengthy. This is a length to the PDF file of it. http://www.1moment.hu/halotti_beszed.pdf Here's a recent (1950) version of that same poem updated by Sándor Márai entitled 'Funeral Oration': http://www.poetrymagazines.org.uk/magazine/record.asp?id=16819 Then there are various poems from Hungarian poets over the past few centuries up until recently but there's no original Hungarian versions - just translations... http://mek.oszk.hu/03900/03966/html/index.htm http://mek.oszk.hu/06500/06567/06567.htm#11 I hope something from this helps. I know you're likely short on time if it's for a funeral card. William. We are part of the Calvin Synod, but I am having trouble locating anything as I do not read Hungarian. Thanks, Kim
Thank you, but it needs to be extremely short for the memorial card. > On Oct 6, 2017, at 12:40 PM, W.S.V. <stratfordbaby@yahoo.com> wrote: > > Hi Kim, > It's been difficult, either to find an already translated into English version of something, or even just Hungarian funerary literature that isn't extremely lengthy. Does anybody happen to know if there is some way to browse these records manually? Regards, Jk.
Hi, Thanks for taking the time to look into this and getting back to me. In a German publication about the family name Kitz I found the following (I quote in German): "Die herkunft der Familie Kitz ist in Dunkel gehüllt. Durch die Jahrhunderte hat sich in der mündlichen Überlieferung lediglich erhalten, daß die Familie aus Böhmen[1,2] stammt.". [1] https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6nigreich_B%C3%B6hmen [2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Bohemia Which, combined with references to Hungary on the re-enlistment and death records of Johannes Kitz found in The Netherlands, adds to the notion that I need to be looking in Hungarian records. According to one of Johannes' re-enlistment records his religious denomination was 'reformed' and the Hungary Reformed Church Christenings, 1624-1895[1] on FS do contain a number of Kitz' so I'll search that film manually to see if I can find him.
