    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: aeignacio Surnames: HULING, MATTESON, SCRANTON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.huling/32.46.52.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The year the book was published I ordered it from Esther. My brother had submitted our great-great grandmother's Mary Ann HULING's name and descendancy as we knew it from Jesse and Mary Ann Huling MATTESON's Bible (in my possession), down to our generation. Esther inserted Mary Ann Huling into the David HULING/Mary Lane family as they presumably had a Mary of about the right age but not further identified, in their family. I accepted it as being possible but knew nothing more about Mary Ann, whose family (of David and Mary) had lived for a long time in Dutchess County, NY. Mary Ann married Jesse MATTESON of Shaftsbury, in Shaftsbury, Vt. which sort of puzzled me if she was from Dutchess Co., New York. Recently I took another look at Sally TAFT and George HULING who supposedly also had a daughter Mary Ann of the right age, in Shaftsbury. Not much info on them, but looking further, I found that George was sort of a travelling/itinerant? inventor and had died possibly in Illinois. One researcher had added that Sally had accompanied her daughter Mary Ann and her husband to Concord, Jackson Co., Michigan in the 1840s. My Mary Ann HULING and her husband Jesse MATTESON HAD moved from Shaftsbury to Concord, Jackson Co., Michigan. Sally, supposedly had secondly married a Daniel HULING and had another daughter Cordelia HULING who married a Truman MATTESON (most likely a relative, but so far not researched) and lived in Shaftsbury. In the 1850 Federal Census I find a Truman and Cordelia MATTESON living next door to a Stafford SCRANTON in Concord. This George Stafford SCRANTON was the son of Elnathan SCRANTON by his first wife. By his third wife, Elnathan, had a son Albert H. SCRANTON, born in Concord. So Stafford (he used his middle name) and Albert SCRANTON were half-brothers. Mary Ann HULING was the half-sister of Cordelia Huling MATTESON. Mary Ann HULING and Jesse MATTESON had a daughter Sarah Josephine MATTESON born in Concord. Albert probably visited his half-brother Stafford who lived next door to Sarah Josephine's aunt Cordelia....and Stafford's half-brother Albert H. SCRANTON married Cordelia's sister Mary Ann HULING MATTESON's daughter Sarah Josephine MATTESON in 1867. Moreover,Mary Ann and Jesse's first two daughters had been named Sarah (after Mary Ann's mother Sally?) and Delia Augusta (after Mary Ann's half sister Cordelia?). Does this not sound like a logical connection to you? I am not on a Huling List as yet. Ann in Iowa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
