Hello One and All, Here I was about to offer a small piece on the great man Gaspard DE CHATILLON or as he may be more familiar to you, Gaspard II DE COLIGNY, my preference is to think his name was actually DE CHATILLON and as he inherited the title Comte de Coligny then he is CHATILLON rather than COLIGNY. But what is in a name so lets just call him Gaspard II DE COLIGNY for now. Oh, dear listers, this was to be the treatise of all works. The stuff that all you budding students were going to seize upon and plagiarise as it has never been done before. A story with an ending, blood and gore, burnings and all that good heroic stuff. But alas dear listers I am having the very ordinary problem of accuracy. Did I ever mention accuracy in genealogy and or historical records ? Perhaps I have. Now we all know that Gaspard II was Admiral of France or as some would put it, Ammiraglio di Francia. And we all know about de Conde and that, dare I mention them again, DE GUISE familly. In short we were going to read all about a hero of the Reformation in non-religious matters, WAR! But then a funny thing happened on the way to the library, I left some notes behind. Libraries are where the correct history is to be found and so without a care I plodded on uphill, backwards, in the snow. And here I have the question that I am sure most of you learned subscribers will all giggle at when I ask, due to you all having completed Huguenot 101. Could someone please tell me when Gaspard II DE COLIGNY was born ? I have discovered anything from 1519 to 1529. We know that the 24th of August, 1572 was not a good day for Charlotte DE LAVAL-MONTFORT as it was the day of her becoming a widow. So now you will all have to wait until some kind soul can deliver via this list the day Louise DE MONTMORENCY (Gaspo's mother) gave birth to this most heroic of men. I shall wait. Kind Regards, peter Leroy
