Im new to the mailing list and am glad to be on board. Im mostly from English and German stock but was told by my parents that some of my ancestors were French Huguenot. After researching I have found 2 branches leading to French names. Ill start with the one in London. A branch of my family tree extends to a John Baptiste ORANGE b. Abt. 1755-1764 and wife Martha FOX. I found their marriage record in the IGI 29 May 1784 Saint Matthew, Bethnal Green, London, England. This parish grew (split off) from the older Stepney Parish as it subdivided over time. Im missing both of their birth/christening records. They had 10 children beginning with Mary b. 5 Apr 1785 chr. 8 May 1785 at Cheshunt Street-Independent, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, England and ending with Benjamin E. ORANGE b. 21 Feb 1803 chr. 30 Mar 1803 in Cheshunt. Im descended from Benjamin ORANGE > Catherine Eugenia ORANGE > John Norris Clarke II > JNC III > Clarence C. Clarke > Dean Bedford Clarke (me). Have photos back to Catherine. I found potential parents of John Baptiste ORANGE in IGI as follows: 2 records of a John ORANGE with parents John ORANGE and Ann who was christened in St. Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London, England. The first record had the date of 9 Dec 1759. The second record had 7 Aug 1763. Both in familysearch.org; would need more confirmation that this is the same person as John Baptist ORANGE, future husband of Martha FOX. I have a rootsweb database (name = dbclarke) that lists a hypothetical pedigree of J.B. ORANGE II if the John /Ann pair above were his parents (along with qualifying cautions; its a work in progress). Also found a christening record of a Jean Baptist ORANGE 11 May 1755 in Saint Jean French Huguenot, Spitalfields, London, England to Parents Jean Baptist ORANGE and Marianne PRETREL. If this is the right ancestor then the parents in my rootsweb tree (John/Ann) are wrong. If Colin PATRICKs rootsweb database (name = patrickpat) is correct there was a man named John Baptist ORANGE b. 1 Apr 1728 in French Chapel Artillary Lane, London. This matches the name of my confirmed ancestor and is the right age and place to perhaps be his father. His parents are listed as Jean ORANGE b. Abt 1690/1700 and Marthe(or Martha) SAVIGMON(spelling of SAVIGNON seems more common). And Jean ORANGEs parents are listed as Abraham ORANGE and wife Susanne. Jean had siblings including a brother Abraham ORANGE chr. 7 Apr 1695 Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, London, England. Im not sure if she is Jeans sister but in the IGI I found a Susanne ORANGE chr. 17 Jan 1694 at Waals Hervormde Kerk, Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Netherlands to an Abraham ORANGE and a Susanne JANVIER(or JAUVIER). If you are researching any of the above families or find data to refute or fill in the holes, Id be very interested and grateful for input. Dean B.
