On searching a Victorian periodical now on the internet (Notes and Queries Vol 11 (285) Apr 14 1855 page 287) I came across an interesting list of the "first participants" in the drainage of the Isle of Axholme divided into a French and Dutch list. On the French list was MARRILION which is one of my names. The web site is at http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/ilej/ The list has apparently been extracted from "A Brief Account of the drainage of the level of Hatfield Chase and patrs adjacent in the Counties of York, Lincoln and Nottingham" said to be by Abraham de la Pryme. The names of the first participants were FRENCH DUTCH Laflour Beharrell Sterpin Lebrand Vandebro Dubertlat Porce Lera Taffin (Taffinder) Legrain Brounyee (Brounyou) Damulir Massingall Marrillion Baw (Bay) Rebon Grebolt Davertion Marquecheir Clate Kierby There are additionally other names mentioned.
