    3. Listers -- Yesterday (29 Oct), Clive <Clive.Bates@btinternet.com> was asking about translations for certain French words in records of the Canterbury Walloon Church. (And I apologize to Clive for saying, in my previous post, that he was in Australia. He is, of course, in the UK and, thus, only 8 hours ahead of me! <g>). It may be helpful to Clive and others to know that the LDS site has a French Genealogical Word List which can be found at -- http://www3.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/rg/frameset_rhelps.asp. Note that this is a new URL from previously, as a result of the LDS website being re-designed and re-arranged recently. At the same URL, you can also select any of the following for France -- maps, church records info, civil registration info, letter-writing guide, historical background and a guide titled How Do I Begin? There is also a guide to research in France available on the site (called a Research Outline). I am presuming this is the same one they used to offer for free but now I notice that it costs US$1. If it is the same Outline, there is an extensive section specifically on Huguenot research in France as well as other countries (under heading Church History). It describes "records you can use to discover your French ancestors", also "content, use and availability of genealogical records", as well as a lot of other useful information. There are similar offerings for other countries such as Germany, England, Ireland. Going to the URL I've mentioned should get you access to them. Andrea P.S. Concerning the word vefue/veuve (widow) which Clive mentioned, I have seen it also abbreviated as v. or ve.
