According to family tradition my surname was DE LA MONTAGNE meaning "of the moun- tain.'" Over the generations the name was spelled all different ways LAMONT,LEMONT and our way LEMONTE I have traced my line back to ca 1822 in Newburgh, Orange County, New York. My gr-gr-grandfather's name was John LAMONT. This is where I hit the wall. The story is that we were Huguenots and first went to Ireland and then to the states. John's son was William Henry LEMONTE and his son Burges Avalon LEMONTE; my Dad was Quintan Burges LEMONTE Any advice or information would be much appreciated. Thank you.
