    3. According to my encyclopédie Quillet (1958) at sargette, sarge is an old form of serge, the textile, so maybe you ancestor was making serge . In the http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/efts/ARTFL/projects/dicos/ project of the ARTLF collection of old french dictionnaries, I tried the variations but couldn't find it . I would have to look at Furetière's dictionnary to be certain.
