    1. [HWE] No Virus Warnings, please
    2. Andrea Vogel
    3. Fellow listers -- It is **not appropriate** to post virus warnings to the HWE list -- or to any other Rootsweb mailing list. If you feel the matter is urgent and important, by all means contact people privately, off-list, including me if you want to. But **do not** send warnings to the list. The subject of virus warnings (and virus hoaxes) is on our list website (http://www.island.net/~andreav/index.html in the Beyond the Bascis section under the heading Viruses & Hoaxes. I urge everyone on this list to become familiar with the contents. It includes a lot of links where you can go for the latest information about viruses, also other links which will tell you about virus hoaxes. Finally, there are also links leading to information which will help you clean your computer of a virus, if it becomes infected. You should also know that it is virtually impossible for your computer to be infected with a virus through any Rootsweb mailing list, including H-W-E. This is because Rootsweb has constantly-updated filters to catch viruses. If your computer does get hit with a virus, it came from another source -- eg. private mailings or your address book-- not through receiving Rootsweb mailings. Having a good virus protection program installed on your computer is a good idea, as a preventative measure. And a good rule of thumb is to **never** open an attachment on any message unless you are sure what it is. Thanks, everyone, for your cooperation with this. Andrea (as list concierge)
