    1. [HWE] Gambrelle - Ireland? France?
    2. Jim & Muriel Gambrel
    3. Myths and legends say that the Gambrelle's were Huguenots, they fled through Holland, to England and N. Ireland, and from there came to Virginia, USA. Contact with a Gambrelle in Paris, France, says the legend in his family is that they came from Ireland. The name has been anglicized to the point of frustration - Gambrell, Gambrel, Gambrill, Gambrall, Gambill, Gamball, Gambel, and Gamble, and I sometimes wonder about Gumbell. The name Gambrel is found in Maryland USA from about 1650 on, and then wanders into Virginia, North and South Carolina, and from there into pretty well all the states. I have written to the Dutch site about Huguenots, twice, but received no reply. The letter "G" in Dutch is pronounced as an "H", so the name would be spelled Gambrell, but pronounced "Hambrell". I would appreciate any leads. Thank you Muriel Gambrel, Winnipeg, Canada
