I had thought of the same reason for the mistake of the "D" in front of the name myself as you have suggested and think it is very likely to be true. I know the song "Mademoiselle from Armentieres" well but still have to locate the place on a map. I suppose you can't tell me the address of a good web-site for maps of France if you write to me again? Regarding a genealogical association, I think it may be asking too much of your friend to look for one on the slight chance of it knowing anything of relevance. The date of Jan Clement's marriage in Southampton is so early - 1571. In England, very few parish register entries exist before that date. I imagine it is the same for France? Barbara Holt in NZ
