Around 1650 many Huguenots moved east to avoid Catholic armies of Lorraine. Some moved into Bischweiler (Bischwiller) near Oberhoffen-sur-Moder in Alsace. Is anyone researching this area? We are researching COBBET and GARTMANN and wondering if they might be Huguenots? We are looking at LDS film727366 for the Evangelisch Reformed church 1710 to 1762. Does anyone know some Huguenot villages about 30 or 50 miles west of Bischweiler where these people were living before moving to Bischweiler There was an Eglise reformee francaise at Bischwiller and this can be found on LDS films 727363/4. Also if you do a place search on the LDS site for BAS-RHIN and when it comes up hit the "view related places" you will find a listing of all records in the area. A lot of these had Temples. In addition there is also Strasbourg itself. Looking at the Bas-Rhin departmental archives it would appear that all their records have been filmed by the LDS together with those in the Strasbourg archives. Hope this helps. Roy Day.
