    1. [HWE] PALLETT
    2. Gerald Bennett
    3. The surname PALLETT appears in the list of Huguenot surnames given by Reaney. I have found French persons with this surname among the list of Aliens made Denizens,(London) but they were resident in England long before the Edict of Nantes. My mother Amy Pallett always insisted on French ancestry, though some surname texts have it as an English surname,so it's confusing. I have Francois Pallett and his son also Francois Pallett, and there's nothing more French than Francois! (sorry about the cedilla). Pallet de Saintonge in Poitou is an armigerous family. Weavers came from there. A John Pallett, weaver,is found in Bethnal Green in 1680. Clement Paillet (note the spelling) had sons Clement and Daniel. A Clement and Daniel Pallett (note the spelling!) were apprentice weavers. However,I don't think my Pallett people are the same as Paillet, which is quite a distinguished Huguenot family. English scribes would not have been able to handle the French,so would probably have anglicised the surname and pronounced it the English way, articulating the T. Regards to all. 40 degrees centigrade here in Canberra.
