While researching my french huguenot ancestors I have to fight my way through French churchbook entries for the French Reformed Church here in Germany. What I'm trying to say is: all the entries are in French and I don't know the language! Is there anywhere a list of the special words in French-English, or French-German used in this entries? Or a list to translate the old professions mentioned? I can get most of the information out of the entries through the dates (sometimes even the dates are written in words!) and the family names. But I'm still lacking some of the information given. Ina Friling
You might try this URL (be careful it will wrap onto more than one line): http://familysearch.com/Eng/Search/RG/frameset_rg.asp?Dest=G1&Aid=&Gid=&Lid=&Sid=&Did=&Juris1=&Event=&Year=&Gloss=&Sub=&Tab=&Entry=&Guide=WLFrench.ASP Or go to http://familysearch.com click on search for ancestors click on research helps tab click on the "F" scroll down to France | French Genealogucal Word [Description] and click on that then go to the first letter of the word you are looking for. The following URL describes old French professions in modern French: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/chatry/metier_old.htm or try this URL: http://cpcug.org/user/jlacombe/terms.html Good luck, Ed Rockstein Dr. Edward D. Hello Ina and listers, The LDS has lists of just the vocabularies you are seeking. They are in hard copy in our LDS library resource file, and I imagine they are on their website in the research helps or whatever its called. Have a look at the website and explore. There are lots of research guides as well as word lists.
