    1. [HWE] COMPTER, etc. > GRD look-up results
    2. Andrea Vogel
    3. As requested by John <postbus@compter.demon.nl>, here are the results of the look-up in the 2000 GRD for surnames COMPTER, COMMENTHER, COMPTOIR & COMPTUR. Sorry, but there were no listings under any of these surnames in either the 2000 or the 1999 editions of the GRD. Have you tried the genealogy search engine to see what turns up? It's at www.genealogyportal.com. May I remind listers that, in making these requests for GRD look-up, please put a SURNAME (in capital letters) in your subject line. Also, please include some details about these surnames, including locations and dates you are interested in. Thanks. Andrea

    3. Re: my previous post today about offer to look-up surnames in GRD 2000. Forgot to mention that requests should include any spelling variants you want me to look for and, most important, a location that you are interested in (a country, at least, or something more specific if you have it). Sorry I forgot this the first time. Thanks. Andrea

    1. [HWE] GRD 2000 > Offer to look-up
    2. Andrea Vogel
    3. Listers -- I have the 2000 edition of the GRD (Genealogical Research Directory) and am willing to do look-ups of surnames in it. If you would like me to look up a name or names for you, please post the request to the list, using a subject line such as the following: SURNAME(S) > GRD Look-up request In other words, *do not* use the one I have on this post, but change it accordingly by including at least one surname which will make it more specific. Please include some details of your surname in the same post. I will post any information I find on the list. For those who do not know what the GRD is, please access previous posts in the list archives which explain it. For example, there was a post on 28 July with subject line: GRD = what is it? There was also an earlier one in mid-March with subject line: GRD=valuable resource: What is it? (or something like that). Hoping to generate some posts from this offer. Keeping fingers crossed that things will get a bit more lively around here <g>. Andrea

    3. I also went to Lille archives in April this year and discovered alot about my ancestors who lived in Teteghem, Nord and the surrounding areas. I am searching for the family name BLAEVOET. If anyone wants some information about this family name, I shall email you all the information I have. Andrea I did a little bit of research in Armentières, following up on what Gwenn Epperson had done in tracing Mathieu Blanchan and Magdalena Joire. She had found their marriage and the baptism of a hitherto unknown child in the Roman Catholic Chruch there. see: "Magdalena Joire: A 'Mademoiselle from Armentières'," New York Genealogical and Biographical Record; vol. 122, no. 2 (April 1991) However, she didn't mention the baptism of dau. Catherine which I was interested in. I estimate she was born between 1634 and 1637. So, I got LDS film # 1,133,312 which has Baptêmes for 1612-1640 for the Eglise Catholique Paroisse d'Armentières. You may wonder why we were looking for people who were Huguenots (at least later) in the Catholic Church. Here is what Ms. Epperson says in her book New Netherland Roots, p. 95, speaking of France: "Protestant records also begin in the sixteenth century, but are very rare, since the records were illegal until 1789. Therefore, many Protestants are recorded in Catholic registers, as marriage by a Catholic priest was required to inherit property. The marriage of the couple will usually be found in the bride's home parish. Also, children were occasionally baptized in the Catholic Church to allay suspicion the parents were 'heretics.'" The records were in Latin in several different handwritings -- some were not very neat. But thanks to the example in Ms. Epperson's book, which had a transcription and a translation, I was a able to scan thru looking for a "Catherina filia Mattheus." The key for me was the Latin word "fuit" which preceded the child's name and then the filia or filius that separated the child's name from the father's. The f's tended to stand out on those words. I did find a Catherina filia Mathius, but the surname and the mother's name didn't look like what I needed. So, I came up empty; but it could have been there and I missed it. (I searched from a few months's after her parent's marriage thru 1639.) Also, At 11:03 AM 8/2/00 -0700, Andrea Vogel wrote: > Hi, everyone -- > This is a follow-up to my post yesterday (1 Aug) with subject line -- >Records: Nord, FRA & Flanders, BEL, about the records of Lille, Nord FRA and >other places in that area. snip >In Belgium: Tournai (Hainaut), Ieper (West Vlaanderen), Namur (Namur) >In France: Armentières (Nord) > I wanted to include the URL for an online map site which would show this >border area but couldn't find a good one. 1. [HWE] Archives is fixed!!
    2. Andrea Vogel
    3. Good news to report, everyone, concerning the Threaded Archives. (Those of you who have been here for a while will know that there has been a Threaded Archives problem since mid-March when Rootsweb ran out of disk space for it, resulting in many missing messages.) I just had a look at the Threaded Archives and was very pleasantly surprised. After many months of waiting, everything appears to be fixed. It also has a whole new appearance which is more user friendly. For one thing, there is no longer any requirement to type in a username and password. And, most importantly, all messages appear to be there -- finally!! -- including the great chunks missing in April, May and June. So, everyone, please have a look at the Threaded Archives for yourself at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/Huguenots-Walloons-Europe-L. Once there, you can choose the month you want to look at, and then choose to either have the subject lines arranged chronologically or by related subjects. Then click on a specific subject line in order to see the whole message. And, just so everyone is aware, the Keyword or Interactive Archives is still available, as an alternative way to search past messages. It was never "broken" and remains the same (no new design). You can search this archives by typing in one or more keywords. It's at http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl. Finally, a comment about our September archives -- it's looking a bit empty, folks. List posts have been way down this month. (Where are you all??) Why don't we celebrate the new Threaded Archives by putting some really great posts into it during September?? Please think about it. Remember: a mailing list=sharing of info. But no postings=no sharing=dead list! Please help me to revive ours. Andrea

Remember that these records (BT's) are a copy of the originals (PR's) so the person doing the copying would have the knowledge that these infants later died and noted that fact by writing the comment "dead" in the baptism record. Also, re: infants baptised privately, usually at the parents' home instead of in the church -- this was done shortly after birth if the child was sickly and not expected to live very long. If the child survived, then he/she would be "received into the congregation" at a later date. 1789 Nov 14 Bur Samuel & John, twin sons of Samuel RUE, age 2 weeks 1790 May 12 Bur Mr. Peter JEUDWINE, age 76 years 1790 May 30 Bapt Sarah, dau of Michael & Elizabeth DEVINE "This Child Born in North Lane, Westgate Without." 2. Kath Hastings
    3. Hi, Andrea and fellow Listers. I am enquiring about the name Ebzery or D'Ebzery. Irish genealogists all say the name is PROBABLY of Huguenot origin but no one can find the necessary "proof". The earliest documentation I have that first mentions: John Ebzery. Jane Richards 10.02.1657 Londonerry Templemore Derry Cathedral 11.2.1977 m 7000431 - 0365 (Although I have no idea what this end date and numbers mean. This entry comes from a long list of Ebzery records from the eighteenth and nineteenth century which someone in the family obviously has colated) The two other earliest dates are : Ebzery, Mary Phillip 21.05.1658 Londonerry Templemore Derry Cathedral 18.6.1875 L.g. 2.9.1975 L.g 2.10 1975 c 700431 - 1055 Then:: Ebzery Phillip Mary Osburne 17 02 1656 Londonerry Templemore Derry cathedral 17.2.1977 SL m 700 431 -0317 Perhaps some other searchers may have come across some clues that can confirm the family oral history of the Ebzerys having been Huguenots. Even an explanation of the end dates and numbers would be appreciated. i have never been to Londonerry and wonder if the records there might prove enlightening. I hope is the way to post a listing, Andrea, as I have deleted the original information posted to me. regards, Kath Hastings, Australia.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0028_01C01A62.35065AE0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit For those interested in the Six Family: the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is exhibiting the "wardrobe"of the family. www.rijksmuseum.nl (available in English) the press release: The Six Gift Regents in Costume In the winter of 2000/2001 the Rijksmuseum will present over 100 outstanding pieces from the exceptionally rich collection of costumes and accessories assembled by the well-known Six family of Amsterdam regents. Including photos of the family, the presentation gives a colourful and wide-ranging picture of the life of the wealthy on the canals of Amsterdam and at their country houses along the River Vecht and in the Gooi region between the 18th and 20th centuries. Regents in costume. The Six gift will be on view from 9 September 2000 to 11 March 2001 in the South Wing of the Rijksmuseum. In 1978 members of the aristocratic Six family donated over 500 costumes and accessories to the Rijksmuseum. It was the only such ensemble in the Netherlands to have been preserved complete. The reason for this was that the items marked important events in the life of this prominent family. The exhibition presents a superb selection from this gift, such as wedding dresses, including the broadest dress in the Netherlands, and parts of the costume of a Garde d'Honneur of Napoleon. Restrained court costumes, colourful Kashmir shawls, richly embroidered bags and shoes, Japonse rokken and jewellery are also shown. As well as family heirlooms, there are very old costumes acquired at auction. These were used among other things for the tableaux vivants in one of the family houses or for the costume parties at the private 'Casino' club in Amsterdam. The old photos in the exhibition show how the costumes were worn on these occasions and by whom. In the accompanying Rijksmuseum dossier factual information alternates with excerpts from diaries, letters, inventories and cash books, again creating a lively picture of the life of the Six family. The dossier is richly illustrated with remarkable photos by the leading fashion photographer Tom van Heel and stylist Maarten Spruyt. It also includes previously unpublished material which has been kindly made available by the Six family. The exhibition is part of the programme of celebrations marking the Rijksmuseum's bicen

    1. [HWE] VAN DER KEUR - Leiden, Netherlands

    3. Hello Everyone, Okay, so I have been lurking all summer long and have not made a posting in a number of months. I am guilty of enjoying what little summer we have had in Southern Ontario. I did read John Peter's book, "A Family >From Flanders" which I borrowed from the local library. It is a very good read for anyone searching for their Huguenot ancestors, even if it does not cover the time period or names you are researching. Here are my interests: My VAN DER KEUR ancestors are said to be of Huguenot descent and the name was originally DE LA COEUR. I have been able to trace my ancestors to: Arij VAN DER KEUR, born circa 1685/1690 in the Netherlands (either Leiden or 's Gravenhage), death Mar 1724 in Leiden, Netherlands married 31 Aug 1710 at Peiterskerk in Leiden to Tanneke Pieters(dr) DE GROET, born 1679, death 1746. Children: Class, Jacobus, Magdalena, Kaatje, Tanneken, Tanneke, Hendrik and Pieter. On Sept 1, Andrea made a posting with names from the BT's of St. Peter's in Canterbury, Eng. There were two names posted that caught my eye and I am wondering if they might be alternative spellings the name DE LA COEUR. The postings were: 1688 Sep 30 Bur Stephen DE NA COURE 1695 Nov 14 Bur Jacob LE COURE Any thoughts or suggestions as to where I might search for more information would be appreciated. Sue de Groot

    2. J Garrett
    3. Greetings Listers, Can anyone shed light on the authenticity of the claim of nobility by the WALDRON family? According to our family genealogy, BARON RESOLVE WALDRON was born in Waldron Hall in old Amsterdam, Holland in 1608. He is said to be the original owner and Patentee of the HARLEM lands in NEW HARLEM on MANHATTAN ISLAND. He married REBECCA HENDRICKS in 1646, who died in 1652. His second wife was LADY TANNEKE VON NAGLE, daughter of BARON VON NAGLE of AMSTERDAM, in 1654. One of the children of the second union was ANNETJE WALDRON, who married JOHANNES DELA MONTAGNE, grandson of DR. JOHANNES DELA MONTAGNE and RACHEL DEFOREST. I am eager to either prove or disprove this link to Nobility. Any and all help on the abovementioned would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail address : <<dearol@pioneeris.net>> John Garrett

    1. [HWE] France > Netherlands records
    2. Andrea Vogel
    3. Hi -- I am posting this info because it may help someone who is researching ancestors who fled from France to the Netherlands. This was found on the LDS site (www.familysearch.org) under a Place Search for France, with sub-heading Emigration and Immigration. The records are -- Burgers,1673-1728 (Citizens of the Netherlands mostly refugees from France). It's written in Dutch and is available on LDS film # 106804. I believe there is a copy at the Bibliothèque Wallonne in Leiden and the original is held at Rijksarchief te 's-Gravenhage (State Archives in The Hague). To find out if anything else on this same film is relevent to Huguenot research, go to the LDS site. Click on Custom Search (blue tab at top right) > click on Family History Catalog (FHL) > click on All Searches & then on Film/Fiche Search. Type in the film number and a complete listing of everything on that film will appear. For other records related to this topic, please look under the following headings and sub-headings with Place Search -- Netherlands - Naturalization and citizenship Netherlands - Minorities Netherlands - Emigration and immigration France - Emigration and immigration Huguenots - Netherlands Walloons - Netherlands And, also for Netherlands research, don't forget the Dutch State Archives at: http://www-lias.rad.archief.nl and as well as the Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie (The Hague) at: www.cbg.nl. Anyone out there researching Netherlands?? Andrea
