I need some help with these occupations listed in a Huguenot church register - commis aux aydes = Clerk of court for pensions? escuyer = ? maitre orphèvre = master ? substitut = ? m° vittrier = ? What does "me" in front of an occupation mean? Such as - "me chirurgien" or "me tailleur d'habits" Ray
Suzie, Thank you for this information. I would be very interested in reading this book as I am currently studying this period of history in relation to my Huguenot ancestors. Barbara Engel OKC, OK, USA
Mary stated in her email 11 Dec that she did not know which ship they were on or when or where they arrived in this country. Isaac de Savoie and his wife Martha were given head rights in Maryland in 1670 for bringing and paying for others to come to Maryland and help colonize it and believed they were in old Somerset County when they were granted the land. Do you have any records or the names of who they may have helped to come to America since my ancestors were in Somerset County in 1673? How and when they got there is still a mystery. I don't recall if you mentioned a possible place of birth in France for Isaac or his parents. Ken

Hello Everyone, I am researching the surname LIOMIN. J.C Liomin is said to have left Monteliard France in about 1765. This name reappears in Loftus, Yorkshire in 1800s and also in Surrey in the mid 1800s. I have not been able to trace any other LIOMIN after the 1800s in the United Kingdom. Has anyone heard of the surname LIOMIN after the late 1800s in the UK? Thanks, Peter _________________________________________________________________ ninemsn Premium transforms your e-mail with colours, photos and animated text. Mary posted on 13 Nov that her kin SAVOIE/SAVOY was in the colony of Maryland in 1670 and later in 1677 in New Jersey. Do you have any record of the ship they came to Maryland, date, and port of entry? Ken Cooper
The IGI has 15 LEOMIN records in South Cave (?) , Yorkshire , 1750s-1780s . I wonder if the later LIOMINs might have become lost amongst the variants of LEMON or LEEMING ? HTH, Robert Hillier
