    3. Hi Eileen, l searched as far back as 1722 for marriages and up to 1742. There was a Jane Hughes,Holywell ,FLN 1722 Nov.3 at H.-Thomas Hughes B.8/108; l don't know what that means. Also a Thomas Hughes born 1718-Grosmont,Monmouth,Eng.(father Thomas. 3. Hi Judy, I too have Hughes in Wales--Amlwch, Anglesey. I have found invariably that the first male child was always named for its paternal grandfather. The first female child was probably named for its paternal grandmother, but could be for its maternal grandmother. Try the WILLPERF database on www.rootsweb.com Click on world connect. When you see a block to enter a database name, type in WILLPERF. It has a lot of the old Welsh pedigrees. I don't know where Pentwyn in Llantilio is located. You might try the various Welsh mailing lists for that location. Go to www.rootsweb.com and find the appropriate county/shire. Have you tried Genuki? I have lost the URL--Google for it. Click on the door to enter and you will find Wales. Hello all. I've just found that Chris and Jayne's site that will help you get other people's help to decipher unreadable certificates etc has moved to http://www.oldscript.co.uk/ It's worth a visit just to see what they do, but be careful - you might get absorbed in trying to decipher complete strangers' records! Great fun though, and it does help by showing how old writing shapes can be translated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Wed, 13 Aug 2008 17:15:00 -0300 From: "Judy Lennox" <[email protected]> Subject: [HUGHES-WALES] wills To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hi everyone, Can someone tell me who can read wills that are from Wales. 3. Hi Everyone, I am new to the Hughes List and I am running into brick walls, working backwards until I get to my Gr. granddad John Hughes [b] in Beaumaris Wales in 1853 and in 1877 he was in Warrington where he married Alice Chrimes in the same year and had 8 children one of them was my grandmother, on the 1901 census he was not in Warrington or in Beaumaris, yet in 1909 he was listed as the father for my grandmother wedding[ this may not have meant he was alive ] I think. so my query is I am trying to find his family line in Wales where he was born, if the names of the children of John and Alice are needed I will post them. I know it is not a lot to go on . Regards, Mike lee, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.

    3. Hi Rachel. To my knowledge, Richard and Mary had 7 children, the first being Jane born in 1843. However, there is a gap to 1847 when no children are recorded for that period. It is, of course, possible that there was a child Richard, but I have no knowledge of him at all. 2. Betty A. Pace
    3. Are the graves in St. Eleth's in Amlwch going to be opened and re-used? My whole Welsh family (way back) is there and recorded in Memorial Transcriptions by Margaret Hughes (on web site www.amlwchdata.co.uk) See below: Of interest to family historians - the government is to permit the re-use of graves and anyone who objects can defer re-use for one generation. See: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uklatest/story/0,,-6684892,00.html Another announcement said they are going to big up the bones and dispose of them somewhere. Then the graves will be sold to another family. Sounds illegal Maybe it varies with where the grave is located, whether rented or bought. I have seen the announcemnt on Liverpool and Welsh mailing lists. Betty Pace

    3. This is a marvelous resource worldwide. It tells you the closest library possessing your book. I even tried several exotic books--only in college libraries and Lib of Congress. Good for inter-library loan.. It works for genealogy books/. Betty Pace --Forwarded From a mailing list:-- There is an easy way to find books that are in libraries that have their catalogues linked online. This is most public libraries, many college libraries and some genealogical/historical society libraries. The site is WorldCat [OCLC)] http://www.worldcat.org/ Use the search engine to search for a specific title or author or subject. and it will give a list of libraries that hold that book. If you enter your postal code, it will even sort the libraries by distance from your home. For example: I searched on William D. Bennett and got 1629 hits for William Bennett even though I had specified the middle initial D. I refined the search specifically for William D. Bennett and got 37 hits--a manageble number. This has helped me find lots of books. I now keep a list of books and their locations. When I travel, I know what libraries I need to visit!! Happy searching.

    3. Hi Listers, I am tracing the whereabouts of one of my ancestors Benjamin Hughes. Hugh Hughes m Jane Mesach, c/0 Jane,Mesach,Benjamin & Robert. Mesach m Elizabeth Griffiths in Bangor in 1856 and they had two sons Robert & Benjamin, between 1857 - 1859, there is no sign of Benjamin in 1861 census, however after the family migrated to Australia, a daughter Jane was born 1866 and the two brothers were noted on the birth certificate as being Robert 9 & Benjamin 8. Birth Place appears to be Llandegai Caernarfonshire. I found a birth for Benjamin in June qtr 1859 and death Sep qtr 1859 in Bangor, but unable to establish who parents were. If Benjamin did die as a baby, why were they still showing him as alive on birth certificates of other siblings. He certainly did not accompany his mother when she migrated on the Blanche Moore in 1864. It is a real mystery that I would love to solve. After Mesach and Elizabeth died both their death certificates show Benjamin as deceased. Does anyone have access to 1871 census that may show him with his grandmother Jane. Thanks for any help, knowing that Hughes as a surname is very common I may be asking the impossible. Rgs Coral Qld (Hot) Australia
