    1. Re: [HOYT] Betsy Kilbourn married to Aaron Hoyt (?parents?)
    2. Hi Barbara, There are two Hoyt immigrants that virtually all USA Hoyt's descend from. They are John Hoyt who arrived in MA about 1635, and Simon Hoyt who arrived in MA in 1628. These Hoyt's appear to be unrelated to each other. Simon had several more sons than John and so about 2/3's of us are descendants of Simon. However, I have found the following 4th generation John Hoyt descendant: Children of Abner & Hannah Hoyt: 7.) Aaron b. Sep 20, 1771; married Betty Kilborn, Jan 31, 1793; He died March 12, 1853. They lived in Weare, NH. Wid. Betty is still living with her son Hoarce J. (Hoyt). This citation was published in in this form in 1871 by David W. Hoyt. [A Genealogical History of the Hoyt, Haight, and Hight Families; second edition, published originally in 1871. Currently available through the Picton Press in several editions.] In addition from his book is the following reference for this family. Please note that Aaron changed the spelling of his last name to Hoit. This is a common variation among Hoyt descendants. Other children of Aaron & Betty (Kilborn) (Hoyt) Hoit were: 1. Jesse b. 09 Nov 1793 d. same day. 2. Jesse b. 11 Dec 1794; m. Abigail Morgan; Died 11 Sep 1853 3. Abigail, b. 27 Dec 1796; m. Richard Hoyt 4. Kilborn, b. 25 May 1799; m. Asenath Bailey; lived in Dunbarton, went West, and was last heard from in Louisiana or Texas. His wife is living in S. Natick, MS; had 3 or 4 children. 5. Betsy b. 16 Dec 1800; m. Assa Stickney, and 2nd, Heman J. Smith. 6. Aaron b. 03 Sep 1802; died 05 Feb 1803. 7. Mehitable, b. 11 Apr 1804; m. Nathan Blanchard. 8. Aaron, b. 07 Sep 1806; died single, 02 Oct 1832. 9. Hannah, b. 09 May 1809; m. 1st, Joseph Lovekin, and 2nd, Joseph L. Fogg. 10. Emily, b. 19 May 1811; m. William C. Simonds. 11. Horace J., b. 08 Jan 1815; m. Mary Feltch, has children; lives in Weare, NH. You can consider this as a primary source since Prof Hoyt developed the above citation while your Betty Kilborn Hoit was still living. The citation offers no information regarding Betty's parents. I suspect that most of the data you have seen floundering on the internet is taken from this source. I also checked the US Federal Census of 1850, and found Aaron and Betsy Hoit living in Weare, NH. Aaron is listed as 79 yrs, and Betsy is listed as 77 yrs. the date of this Census was July 31, 1850. So Betsy kilborn was born in either 1773 or 1774 in NH. I also saw their son Horace listed on the same census page. Then I found Betsy in the US Federal Census of 1860 living with Horace J. Hoit (her son) in Weare, NH. This census was done on June 12, 1860, and lists Betsy's age as 86. It also lists her birthplace as Massachusetts instead of NH as stated in the 1850 census. The last possible lead is a citation as follows: Betty Kilborn Birth Date: 1773 Birthplace: New Hampshire Vol 96 Page 95 AGBI Source: Gen. Column of the "Boston Transcript". 1906-1941. (The greatest single source of material for gen. data for the N.E. area and for the period 1600-1800. Completely indexed in the Index.): 19 Dec 1928, 7975. I hope this at least confirms your confidence in the assumptions that you are using. Good Luck.
