Author: JavaidKhan1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.howes/225.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The British geneology records show that Ernest Sydney Howes, born in July 1876, joined the Merchant Navy, qualifying as a Second Mate in Bristol on 25 Nov 1896 and First Mate in South Shields(near Newcastle) on 26 August 1899. He then left Britain and there are no more records there. However his maternal uncle Robert Trotman Lambert went to Australia in 1886, and he may have gone there. You may be interested to know Mary Emma Howes (1864-1902), the elder sister of H.H.Howes (1875-1947), was married to my Great Grand Uncle Edwin Heinke(1857-1902), and they were married in Caracas, Venezuela in September 1896 and lived in Venezuela and Mexico, where Marry Emma died after a haemorrage to her lungs.
