    3. Hi Miranda. It's always great to hear from other Howerys. You may already know that we are all descendants of two men, Hans and Jacob Howry, who settled in Pennsylvania in the 1700s. Most of us who spell the name Howery are descendants of the Jacob Howry who founded Howrytown, Virginia in the 1790s. Jacob's ancestors came to America from Switzerland in the early 1700s. Our name was originally spelled Hauri, an Alemannic (south-western German) word that means a person who talks too loudly. The first Hauri was Ulrich Hauri, who is mentioned with his wife Rechenza as a tenant of the monastery of Beromuenster in 1312. Our coat of arms is a blue shield with a white dove. The simplicity is typical of Swiss coats of arms. If you or any other Howerys are interested in genealogy you might want to subscribe to HOWERY-L, a free electronic mailing list for Howery genealogy. To subscribe send a message to HOWERY-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM and put the word Subscribe in the body of the message. > -----Original Message----- > From: mmhjeter@usa.net [mailto:mmhjeter@usa.net] > Sent: Saturday, April 11, 1998 7:37 PM > To: vhowery@mailexcite.com; murtie@geocities.com; anh79@hotmail.com; > ahowery@swbell.net; khowery@chguernsey.com; howery@mailexcite.com; > howeryfamily@mailcity.com; h.chance@mailexcite.com; > dhowery@mailexcite.com; howerys@mailexcite.com; J@usa.net; > CHnCATS@conentric.net; kd'oubk@deltanet.com; kimi@n2california.com; > howery@pilot.msu.edu; bigboat@eudoramail.com; MooLuv@webtv.net; > howeryd@minot.com; gronks@mailexcite.com; howery@powr.net; > melissamoon@geocities.com; cloud9@mailcity.com; michelle.p@mailcity.com; > wheezy.charee@mailexcite.com; aftem@mailexcite.com; > bigman@elaine13.stanford.edu; robsan@gorilla.net; > howeryj@email.spjc.cc.fl.us; whowery@ix.netcom.com; chowery@keytech.com; > David@usa.net; Howery@mail.trincoll.edu; dhowery@ibm.net; > howery@asanet.org; sean@us.net; mercury@eskimo.com; jhowery@tde.com > Subject: Howery (an uncommon name) > > > Greetings fellow Howerys, > > I've been surfing the net looking for other "Howerys" because it > is a very uncommon name.
