Hello, everyone! I find it very interesting that those 2 Howrey brothers were involved in that shoot-out. My Howry family came to Wyreka/Powersville, Putnam Co., MO (right next to the Iowa border). In talking with a historian in Meridian, ID, I found out that the "Howry boys" had quite a reputation. Evidently, about 1/2 the town of Powersville, MO picked up and moved to Hunter/Meridian, ID. Anyway, this historian told me that when the "Howry boys" rode into town, everyone else went back inside their houses. Considering my Howry family...these brothers/cousins would have stood 6'+ (some up to 6'8") That was extremely tall, especially for 1890s/turn-of-the-century. Add to that some 3" roping boots and a hat, and the fact that their build was extremely slim/wirey (not stocky at all)... that sounds like a fairly intimidating picture riding into town. It's my understanding that they were known for being quite a wild bunch, too. Their sister, my great-grandmother, stood 5'11"!!
