    3. I noticed the traffic and would like to encourage more. I don't have an abundance of time to commit to genealogy, but I try every chance I get. I live in Austin, Texas and have limited info. on my Howry lineage passing through Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. When time permits I would like to visit more. phil howry -----Original Message----- From: S J Hulett <marcompro@juno.com> To: HOWERY-L@rootsweb.com <HOWERY-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, March 30, 1999 12:00 AM Subject: Re: [HOWERY-L] I'm here!!! >Hi thanks for your response >nice to meet to you ...my research indicaets that the Haury name was >originally Swiss, and meant "the town crier" . thanks to an Alsatian >cousin, Roger Haury, I've gone back to 1520 in Baden, but have not made >it all the way to Switzerland. >My grandfather Jacob Haury, was b abt 1876 in Grafton, OH. >His father, Jacob Haury, was b 3 June 1843 in Riedseltz, Alsace >His father Georges Jacques was born 17 March 1811 in Wingen, Alsace. > >Fred Haury of Alberquerque is a collector of Haury/Hauri, et al names >and has done a great deal of research. 2. Hi Shirley, & All, I am using the list to reply. Normally I avoid sending this type of answer by a mail list, but I want to liven it up a bit, and also make my presence known to others, and promise to contribute (as time goes by) some HAURY, HAURI, HOWERY, & Other HAURY info' to the common group data. I have notified my HAURY family members and other HAURY e-mail users of the list, and hope that they join. Any who may join should Log On (post a message) to let other list members know that they are new members. ?Does the List have an Archive that I may visit to review & obtain past postings? Shirley, I received your other messages & will respond to them as appropriate with separate messages or comments. I expect part of our e-mail can be exchanged via the list, since much of it relates to HAURY info' which could interest other list members. Hi Bonnie, & Hi Amelia, I have some HOWERY info' that I will post to the list in days to come that may be of interest. It may take me some time to dig it out & prepare for submission. I only have e-mail at present, and am not on the internet, so I can't visit WEBSITES or receive e-mail attachments. 3. I'm looking for any information on a John George Howry/Howery, possibly born in VA, then went west to Dearborn Co, IN, maybe by way of Butler Co. OH. He bought land in Dearborn in 1818, was on the 1820 and 1830 census there. By 11-1830, he was apparently in the Dearborn Co. jail, until at least 1833. His wife was Susan, a Swiss immigrant. By 1840, Susan was head of household in Dearborn Co., also listed in 1850 same location. They had at least 8 children including Daniel, John (moved to Iowa 1853), Mary, Samuel(moved to Lynn Co. KS 1857) and possibly a Susan. My ancestor, Elizabeth B.? Howry, b. 12 Dec. 1819, m. 12 Dec 1836 Philip Jacob Cale in Dearborn Co. IN, on the 1840 census in Ripley Co. IN, was in Morgan Co. IN by 1847, then moved to Carver Co. MN 1856. 1874 married 2) Johann Jacob Baumez and moved to Barnes Co. Dakota Territory, 1895 to Baker Co. OR. I think her father was John George Howery of Dearborn Co. IN. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Judie Cale Nelson

    3. Has been a pretty quiet list. I have not contributed myself, so maybe we can kick start this!!! Please tell me what your line is and I will send my line out once more. Most of my information has come from dear friends on the net. My Great Great Grandmother was Maria Howery born 18 Feb 1854, Dane Co.WN She is from this line: Mary Ann Stevens b. abt 1833 m. to Davidson Howery, Jacob Howery b.Old Dominion, VA and Catherine Hess Michael Howery b. abt 1760 and Christine Hartman Prior to this I am not sure and will leave that up to the experts. Jacob and Catherine Hess had the following Children; 1. James b. 18 Aug 1816, m. Margaret Heiderich & Narcissa Balch 2. Thomas Hoery b. 10 Oct 1820, m. Maria Stevens 25 Sept 1855 3. John Howery b 11 Dec 1820 m. Ellen Howery & Polly Trevett 4. Charles David Howery b. 02 Oct 1831, m. Elisabeth Stevens. I do have more information that I am not sure about but my web page has some of this information that is unclear and could be used as a starting point only. There are different views on the ancestry. 3. Hello to all of you out there!!! Not much activity on our Howery List. With winter coming I know I will be doing a lot more work. Thank you Justin for taking care of this page! Much appreciated. The Hourie's: There was a John Hourie, b. c 1779 Orkneys, Scotland, m. to Margaret Cree 10 May 1825, St. Johns, Manitoba. I have a book "Metis Families" by Gail Morin with his line that is 4 pages long. So, if you hear of anyone that is interested I can pass them on to herand they can get family group sheets on this family. I do a lot of Metis Genealogy here in Canada. Look forward to hearing more from all of you over the winter. Winter is long and cold up here in Canada!!!!! 3. By coincidence, there's a Scottish family with our same name. They are apparently totally unrelated to the Swiss family. They typically spell the name, even now, as Hourie or Haurie. I have a few odd notes on that family but nothing definite. A daughter of Magnus Haurie sold the farm on island of Stenness (?) in the Orkneys from which they take their name (Haurie?) in the 1500s. A few members of the family immigrated to Ireland in the 1600s and 1700s. The Andrew Howry, born in Ireland and died in Chester Co, Pennsylvania in the early 1700s might have been a member of this family. -----Original Message----- From: Phil Howry [mailto:phil@texas.net] Sent: Tuesday, October 06, 1998 5:55 AM To: jhowery@tde.com Subject: Re: [HOWERY-L] FW: Hourie Families from Manitoba C.S. I don't have specific info. on your request, but Leonard Howry in College Station, Texas may be able to offer some assistance. To my understanding, the Hourie spelling, or something similar was the original old country spelling. Hans and Urich Hourie came to America and settled in and around Penn. Over the years, the clan split up going north and south. It seems the Howry spelling went south and the Howery, Howrey went north. There is Bob Howery in Oceanside, CA. who came the northern route. He has a wealth of information as well. I have a book he sent me on his clan. Both Bob and Leonard have worked hard to get their info in electronic form. phil howry ---------- > From: Justin C.S.
