    3. Looking for 1st wife of Larkin Jesse Howell and any information on Larkin before 1850. Larkin was b. in North Carolina, in the census of 1850 his birthplace is listed as Ashe Co., NC and was listed in 1850 census of Russell Co., VA. His family traveled to Kentucky about 1850 and lived in Kentucky and settled in either Pike or Floyd Co., KY. known information includes marriage to a Euphrasia or Vempasy Dye McFarland (? on McFarland) who went by many different names. Several children by this marriage, but I'm looking for information on the mother of Jesse Howell who m. 1. Elizabeth Hall and m. 2. Spicey Hall (Elizabeth and Spicey were cousins but I'm not sure how far apart, Elizabeth's brother stood as witness to the 2nd marriage). Other researchers say that Euphrasia wasn't Jesse Howell's mother and in fact Larkin was m. before. But I am unable to find a record or listing for his first wife if this is the case. I haven't been able to check state census or tax records for Larkin before 1850 due to distance from myself. I haven't been able to find anything before 1850 on him either. Any help will be appreciated. I also cannot find the marriage listing for Jesse Howell m. 1. to Elizabeth Hall even though I know it to be true. 1850 census states both Larkin and Jesse were born in Ashe Co., NC, and Jesse is listed at the end of the household and not in order by age as other children were. Other children listed as b. in Virginia, only Larkin and Jesse are listed as being born in Ashe Co., NC. The marriage between Jesse Howell and Elizabeth Hall had to occur sometime around 1851 in Kentucky, probably Floyd or Pike County as that is where they settled. I have found that there were at least 2 Jesse Howell's in those counties at the same time and this has hampered my search. One of those was the son of Thomas Howell and the other one that I know for sure is the one I am looking for. Another thing that has hampered me is that both of them married an Elizabeth and they both appear on the census in the same county. I believe Thomas' son, Jesse married Elizabeth Salsberry (note I can find that marriage record, but not mine). Any help will be appreciated. 1. Larkin Jesse Howell 2. Jesse Howell m. 2.
