    3. Jeannette I was cleaning up some messages this morning and i have this from Genforum messages. What do you think Quote Hugh Howell is not related to Edmund or Edward. You have been relying on the Morman Church a little too much Hugh was Welsh and emigrated to the US in 1699.It's rumoured he and his brother were alongside of Captain Kidd.John Howell was hanged for piracy in 1701 for his services with Kidd only 3 dats after Kidd was hanged Edward and Edmund were in America well before Hugh was born so it's practically impossible Unquote Carol -----Original Message----- From: Jeannette Phethean <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, February 20, 2002 10:13 AM Subject: Re: [HOWELL] Re: Question >Many thanks, Carol; you've added to the inforamtion I have on this line. >Your son-0in-law and I come from the same line, since Levi and Mary Green >Howell are also my ancestors. > >The Howell book is one janel Howell and I wrote with the help of a lot of >our cousins about 3 years ago. 3. This is absolutely right, so far as I'm concerned, especially when you consider that the Edmund Howell who is rumored to have been the father of Hugh married a young woman who ought to have been the mother of Hugh, in this country, and she died leaving no children, according to George Rogers Howell, who was a fairly well-known genealogist and an Edward Howell descendant. In those days, artificial insemination was totally unknown, and on the other side of the "pond" would make it ridiculous. If you have access to the book on the Edward howell family written by David Faris, you will also see that he does not mention Hugh or any of the known descendants of Sampson. David Faris updated the book written many hears ago by Emma Howell Ross, another of Edward's descendants. The pirate story also doesn't really hold water, since Hugh would have been almost 40 when Kidd turned to piracy in 1695. Add to that the fact that no amount of trying has been able to locate, for certain, the supposed brother or brothers. I have little information on the family you're working on after they left NJ, but will try to pass on to you what I do have. This will be a cintinuing story, I'm afraid; it's one of my really busy days.
