My information on Mathew Howell ( I've always seen it spelled with one t) places him in Ohio Co., West Virginia & Belmont Co., Ohio. The will of Susannah Henthorn, Mathew's mother-in-law, dated 1799 in Ohio Co., was witnessed by a Wiliam Howell & David Howell probable relatives of Mathew. There was also an Aaron Howell who married an Elizabeth White in Ohio Co. in 1797. Mathew had a son named Aaron(probably named after the older Aaron) born about 1792, who's wife was named Elizabeth born about 1792/93. My information gave her father's name as Andrew White. A lot of these families kept using the same names every generation and married into the same families every generation, so there could have been two Aaron Howell/Elizabeth White marriages. An Andrew White was one of the witnesses to the Susannah Henthorn will. I seen two different names given for the wife of Andrew White, Elizabeth Cissel and Elizabeth Neiswonger, so there may have been more then one Andrew White. Mathew grandson Hamilton Howell, the youngest son of Aaron, settled in Perry Co., Indiana, sometime between 1872 ,when his daughter Anna was born in Missouri, and 1877 when his son Oliver was born at Lilly Dale in Perry Co. The Philip Howell family was already living there at the time and I have'nt found a connection in the male line between the two families. Eliza Smith Cronin, the daughter of Mathew's daughter Mary Howell Smith, also settled in Perry Co., after the Civil War with her family. I have no information on the parents of Mathew or where he came from.
