My ancestor Morgan Howell was born in 1825 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. He may have had a brother named Fred. In 1861 he emigrated to California. He married Sarah Morgan also from Merthyr Tydfil, whose parents owned the Red Lion pub. I am told nine generations of Howells were buried in a church yard in Merthyr Tydfil.
