"Rumor" has it that Benjamin Howell married a Mary Elizabeth Beest in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania in 1758. I've found no record of this as yet, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. He PRESUMABLY is the son of the Benjamin Howell (Sr.) who married Catherine Papen in Philadelphia on July 19, 1721 in Christ Church. Benjamin "Jr." identifies Joshua Howell as a brother, and also had sons Daniel and Benjamin. This person also claimed that my George Howell, James Howell and William Howell were also sons of this Benjamin Howell who died in 1799. Again. No proof. I've found no use of the name "Benjamin" in my known Howell families. Benjamin Sr. of Philadelphia is given as the son of Daniel Howell and Hannah Lakin who came from the Cooper's Creek area of New Jersey. He left a will in Philly in 1774, File 44, Book Q, page 43. Don't think he mentioned any children, but Catherine's estate was apparently settled in 1777, File 25, (Administration) Will Book i page 3. There was a Catherine Howell who died in Philly in 1696 who might have been Thomas Howell's widow, since she is said to have gone to Philly with Daniel Howell. Daniel was the son of Thomas Howell and Katherine ??? of Tamworth, England, who settled in New Jersey on Cooper's Creek. The Mordecai Howell in Philly records is given as a son of Thomas, and brother of Benjamin and Daniel. There was another brother, David Howell too. The person gave absolutely no proof of Benjamin's connection to the Benjamin in Philly, but it is certainly possible. If you find proof on this please let me know as it will answer questions on my end. But there is a DEFINITE connection between MY Howells and the ones in Floyd County. Jackson Howell would have been a fairly young man since Lee was born in 1894, so I'd say Jackson Howell was probably born about 1860 - 1875. The name "Andrew" Howell pops up here very often. I am positive that George, James, and William Howell of Grayson County, VA were all brothers and are connected somehow to these folks in Floyd and Patrick counties.
