my Howells are originally from Delaware and spread through to the Elkton area of Maryland. Unfortunately, I have very little beyond what I remember my Grandmother telling me. William Howell (an English sea captain) married a Delaware Indian. They had sev- eral children, one of which, Harry Ellis Howell (my g-grandfather) married Elllie Com- pton. He worked for the railroad and when diabetes took his sight, the railroad let them live in a small house beside the railroad tracks (I think this was around Rising Sun, MD). They had several children- Ellie being my grandmother who married John Henry Campbell. (I do have the names of her brothers and sisters at home but not much else!)
