These are my Howells: John Howell (d.l864) married Anne (Short?) in l858. She was born in l830. They Lived in Anson County and in the Lilesville area. The children of John and Anne were, marth Elizabeth (l864-l945), Martha, b. l859 married a Ramsay, Araminta (l855-l9l3) married a Mullis, Hugh (b.l856) and Stella who died young. The l880 Census of Anson County, NC listed Anne Howell as head of the house, son Hugh, age 23, Larry grandson,6; Lizzie age l7. Elizabeth Howell (l864-l945) married Alfred Ledbetter, son of Allen and Sarah, in l877. The story is he left her and their two children and was never seen again. She took her Howell name back, and so all the children up until my father who was born in l933 carried the name Howell. Elizabeth and Alfred had Joseph Abner Howell (l882-l95l) who married Vida Patterson from Jackson Springs in l905. These were my father's grandparents.
