OK, maybe this is a long shot, but the name COATS jumped out at me. I have a FANNY HOWELL (1794 NC - aft 1870 prob Butler Co, AL) m. GEORGE VICKREY (abt 1795 SC - d 1852 Butler Co, AL). They had 9 children, born mostly in Lancaster Co, SC before they moved near Greenville, Butler Co,AL in mid 1830's. Their son ELIHU (1825 SC - 1905 Trinity Co, TX) moved to Texas after his wife & daughters died in mid-1850's. There he married Elizabeth White- Groce. The 1860 census in Nacogdoches Co, TX shows Elihu Vickrey, 35, Carriage maker, then his family, then "N.B. COATS, 22, Wagon & Carriage Maker, b AL". I have tried to find who this COATS was, and did he come with Vickrey to Texas. Some of Elihu's Seale & Sims cousin moved to TX abt this time as well, and twenty years later Elihu's son married Fanny Parmer who's family left Greenville to Trinity Co, TX in 1880's. I know this make a big circle, but the COATS name may ties my family with this one.
