I don't remember seeing this either. Would love to see Clark Howell's book and the corrections. My grandfather's mother was a Howell--He was Joseph Clark Shelton. He may have been named for a relative on the Shelton side, but it's intriguing to think that there could have been a Clark connection on the Howell side. These were TN Howells. WABH was born Maury/Giles Counties, and married in Maury in 1866. Shelton -->< Eliphaz's, son Hezekiah Shelton ,migrated from Lauderdale County, AL in about 1851-2 into Milam County, Texas (Now Coryell) and settled on or near Owl Creek on what is now Fort Hood, Texas. Thanks, Weldon, I don't find a direct connection to your lines but will save your information, just in case. I am, after all, "half" SHELTON, and just a generation farther back, HOWELL also. Do you know the origin of your SHELTON line? My line has been traced to Roderick SHELTON I who came down from PA to NC: Shelton Laurel in Madison Co., NC. Many Sheltons in the Southeast came originally from Shelton Laurel. (Probably you've read about "The Shelton Laurel Massacre"? You can "google" it.) My great-grandmother, Mary HOWELL, was born in Erwin TN. She was a daughter of Joseph HOWELL (I think. My records are packed to move.) Her mother was Hannah Caroline GIBBS Howell.
