Nancie - I do have some NJ Howells, but I have so many names in my database (26, 000+) that it's hard sometimes to figure this all out. <g> If you will give me the names of some of the NJ Howells you are researching, I will be glad to check my database on this. Also, I'm not sure where the idea that all the Howells came from Edward Howell (I even had this in my database for awhile). Maybe from the Howell books by Emma Howell Ross which focused on this family. In any case, there are several Howell lines that we may connect someday. In the book "The Early History of Southampton, L.I., New York With Genealogies" by George Rogers Howell 1887, there is a section on the Howell Family (pages 300-322) which indicates that "Edward Howell of Marsh Gibbon, Buckinghamshire, England, was the ancestor of this family of Southampton ." It then says "A Richard Howell came to Southold with his mother, a widow, it is said by Rev. William Hallock, D.D., late of New York, who married Peter Hallock, the ancestor of the Long Island family of Hallocks. No relationship is known to exist between these two pioneers." Anyone have any additional info on this? Take care. Doug Hanke Tampa, FL -------- REPLY, Original message follows -------- Date: Friday, 27-Feb-98 03:49 PM From: Robert E. The earliest I have in NJ is a Thomas Howell from Harlston, Sussex, England . I keep hearing that all of the Howells came from Edward who settled in NY but can't see how he connects to this Thomas. Any ideas?
