    1. [HOWELL] EVERYONE PLEASE READ re: OUR ANNUAL RENT IS DUE
    2. Colleen
    3. Hi family, Frankly cousins, this is a touchy issue for me as I have major reservations asking for money. However, fees for Howell Research are annual and each year our domain has to be paid for. The hosting fees are due January 2nd. To those cousins who joined us this year: our cyberhome, Howell Research Room <http://howellresearch.com>, is just what I said... OUR home. I only maintain the site. It's the combined family who pays to keep us in it. In this way, WE own the site ~ not just me... a. Whenever I want to do something major there I bring it to the family for a majority vote. b. I have promised the cousins, and now you, that I will never move our home without your knowing it first and why. c. Each cousin's information displayed there is treated as important to me as my own data. If we're to keep our home on the Web, the following fees need to be raised: The cost: $ 70 = anuual fees 20 = .net registration 20 = .org registration --- $110 outlay for howellresearch.com/.net/.org Please understand straight off ... NOBODY is REQUIRED to help support this effort. It is all voluntary and in no way will you be prevented from using the Room or any other site, page, etc. we may set up at Howell Research. If you would also like to contribute to this effort I will very humbly and gratefully accept any donations: Colleen Pustola P.O. Box 13154 Fort Carson, Colorado 80913 IF the donations exceed the required $110, I will roll those extra funds over toward our annual fees next year. I will NOT retain any of the funds for myself, but keep it all within the family to pay for our home. And now, I have a request to make. I intensely dislike having to ask everyone for money, albeit annually. I'd like to know if we have a bookkeeper/accountant-type cousin with us who is willing to take on this yearly task, sending notices to the family and coordinating the effort. If the above isn't acceptable, can anyone come up with an idea of taking care of this annual issue without my having to bring it up? Thanks, everybody. Colleen

    3. How about we call KY and TN (at least the eastern areas) the Appalachians? Part of VA also. But as to starting in the Appalachians, not if they came from the British Isles. They came there from somewhere else. Naming patterns are something else again and carry a lot of meaning in their own right. I have another line (CARTER) that started out as Quaker in PA, with typical Quaker naming patterns. They moved southwest, ended up in WNC, married into other lines and a whole 'nother pattern of given names emerged. 3. You make a valid point. I'd been thinking the same sort of thing and had not mentioned it. I would add however that these HOWELLs (and many other families) may well have arrived in PA and gone south through the Cumberland Gap, etc. Those who landed in Philadelphia typically took that route. But then--some of them just might have taken a turn to the north! 3. Hey, count me in for another Northern Howell, although I too notice there are alot of southern & mid-western Howells. Here is my info. I did send this out in July, but it's worth re-sending as there may be new people. I have a Joel Howell, born 1832 and died about 1919 in Mattituck, Long Island, NY. Married to Phoebe (or Phebe) Hulduh Carter, (no other information on Phoebe other than birth year of 1834), on Sept 24, 1854 also in Mattituck. I was told they had 10 children, of which I have found the names of 9. As far as I can tell, all were born in Mattituck, Long Island, New York. They are as follows: Rinech H. Howell daughter Jan 03, 1856 Thomas Henry Howell son Dec 10, 1857 Silas Hawkins Howell son July 13, 1859 Joel Ernest Howell son July 17, 1866 Caroline Amanda Howell daughter Aug 14, 1868 Alfred VanBuren Howell son Feb 13, 1871 Cary Howell daughter unknown Sidney Howell daughter unknown Lila Howell daughter unknown ???? Howell unknown unknown Silas, (my great, great grandfather), married Lizzie Dunham Sept 1, 1886. All I know of Lizzie is she was born Oct 1, 1861 and died approx 1926-27 in Mattituck, LI, NY and they had 2 children. A daughter Caroline Carter Howell born 1894 in Mattituck, never married and a son, Raynor Dunham Howell (my great grandfather), born March 29, 1890. He married Grace Mary Winchester, (born July 19, 1892 in Syracuse, NY) on November 27, 1919 in Mattituck. Raynor died Sept 26, 1977 and Grace died April 30, 1981..both in Ballston Spa, NY. Lila had a daughter Carol Hallock born in early 1920's. Unsure if Hallock is maiden name or married name. Alfred married Bertha -unknown last name- and had a daughter named Katharine What I am really looking for is dates for Joel's children as I am missing some, as well as the name and sex of the 10th child. Also, I know Joel's parents are a Greshom H. Howell born May 28, 1804...not date of death and Lydia Conklin born Oct 8, 1800 died Dec 16, 1880. I have 4 children listed but I have no infomation on Greshom's parents or siblings. Some other bits of info....The house in Mattituck was designated a landmark in 1936 while my great grandfather's parents, (Silas & Phoebe) and his sister still lived in the house. It served as the British Headquarters during the Revolutionary Battle of LI. It was built in the late 1600's or very early 1700's by Richard Howell, but I have no clue how to connect Richard down the line, so I need to connect from Greshom on up. Would love to find someone researching the same line. Thanks...Kim Ambrosecchia -------Original Message------- From: HOWELL-L@rootsweb.com Date: 12/09/2003 02:52:54 PM To: HOWELL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [HOWELL] More Northern Howell Family lines Hi, I have noticed over time that this mailing list seems to deal primarily with Howells with origins from the Southern part of the US. I am descended from the Howell lineage with origins in the North, PA, New England, IL, OH areas. Is there a separate mailing list for reaching that portion of the Howell family members? If so what is that mailing list or how may I locate it. Thanks Carrie Bias Hoffert. ==== HOWELL Mailing List ==== Please do not send messages with attachments, HTML, MIME, or any other enhanced text to the list.
