Hello: Thanks for writing. I don't have any information on this Irwin. Was your Mary Jane Howell a Howell or did she marry a Howell. The one I have was Mary Jane (Gennie) Howell, wife of Phillip Washington Wright, west Lauderdale County, Alabama, Wright Community. Yes, Jackie this is the correct family. Mary A. may be the correct child. If so, later in life she became Alice Beatrice. Thanks for your help. Thanks for helping. The Howell's below are David W. Howell and wife Sarah Margaret Williams and son William (TEB). William is not old enough to be the father of Alice Beatrice Howell. 1870 Hardin County, Tennessee Census list a Mary B. or A. Wright living with them. She is 3 years old and could be the correct child. Hello Keith: Thanks for writing. I do need to look at the probate records of LCA and HCT. Since I posted the message I have had several people write. I do know that D.W. Howell had a sister that died in 1868. She was Mary Jane Howell and she married Phillip Washington Wright. There is a girl Mary A. or B. Wright living with Howell and his first wife in the 1870 HCT census. She is 3 years old and very well could be the correct child. I have some Wright information that list 2 children of Mary Jane (Gennie) Howell and P.W. Wright. They are Dora Etta 1865 and Mary Alice 1867. This Mary Alice could be the one on the 1870 Census but this one died in 1877. My Alice Beatrice married, had children and died in 1908. Thanks for any more help you might send. Well that was not what I wanted to say.I ment if they were married 24 years before she was adopted she could be a grandaughter. If you have children from the 1860-70 census please post them.I also think you should look in probate for an adoption.Let us know how you are doing.I belong to Rootsweb's Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness (RAOGK) and we have lookup volunteers everywhere. So if you need some help let me know. Hello Jeany: Thank you for writing. Yes, I thought of that also, but according to the 1880 Census, Alice (daughter) was in the household but (wid) D.W. Howell's 2nd wife, Sarah Columbia Palmer Graham was not. Keep thinking, I need help with this one. Adoption information needed from 1860's or 1870's. Can anyone help or tell me how I might get help in finding out who were the parents of ALICE BEATRICE HOWELL ? In the 1880 Census of Hardin County, Tennessee she is listed as the daughter of D. W. Howell. Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace D. W. Howell self W Male W 50 AL Farmer ------- ------- Alice Howell Dau S Female W 13 AL Keeps House ------- AL Bob Howell other S Male W 20 TN Labor -------- ------- D.W. Howell is David W. Howell. He married Sarah Margaret Williams in 1851 in Lauderdale County, Alabama. Later he moved to Hardin County, Tennessee. She died and he married Sarah Columbia Palmer Graham, widow of James Graham. They later moved to Lauderdale County, Alabama. They died in Lauderdale County, Alabama and are buried at the Florence City Cemetery. ALICE BEATRICE HOWELL married JAMES BOYD THOMAS in Lauderdale County, Alabama in 1894. She died in 1908 and she and James are buried in the Florence City Cemetery also, with D.W. Howell and second wife Sarah C. Howell. The obituary in the local paper states that ALICE BEATRICE HOWELL was the adopted daughter of David W. Howell. Are there any records in Hardin County, TN. that might show who her birth parents were ? Any one have any ideas ? Thanks, SteveCooper
