    3. My husband just return from Iraq on Dec. 11 (which would have been my father-Howell's birthday). My husband's guard unit was activated on Jan. 28. This was the best Christmas present ever. Hopefully he is home for good, well at least until next time they activate them. He has been flying in and out of Iraq for over a year and also into some of the other scary places with the USAF. He gets shot at every time he lands. Doesn't keep this mother calm! I wonder how many other Howell relatives are involved in this War to keep the rest of us safe.. Priscilla

    3. Yes, this is the correct David W. and wife Sarah. This is his 1st wife. She died and he married Sarah Columbia Palmer Graham, widow of James Graham. David is listed as David Wilson when he married and also on Civil War Record. Newspaper articles show him as David William Howell in several different dates, except for one. My wife's family says he was David William Howell. My wife even has a brother named David William Wesson, after David William Howell. I can't prove it either way. 3. Yes, that is the son of David Howell. I have seen him listed as W.T., T.W., William and later in life as T.E.B. Never have figured out the TEB. He was Captain of a Riverboat in 1912 and was shot and killed by a man on another boat. This took place on the Green River near Evansville, Indiana, I think. I spend about 75% of my research time on these Howell and Wesson families of my wife. They are a lot of fun researching. David was the son of Phillip Howell and Mary Wesson of here in Lauderdale County, Alabama. They married here in 1825. I never have been able to trace the parents of Phillip Howell. Never have seen any post for their family except for the ones I have sent. Must not be anyone on the list that is related to them. 2. Thanks for answering my post. Lordy! Lordy! How I hate to apologize! I must have been dreaming. I mixed up my grandfather and my great grandfather. I really don't know how I managed to do that. To start over---- Samuel Irwin m. Mary Jane Howell, 14 Jan 1818, in Wilson Co., Tn. She was listed as Jencie Howell. Henry Howell was her surety. They procured land in Lawrence Co. Al., in 1818, and lived out their lives there. I have never been able to learn anything about this Howell family. The first son was William B. Irwin. It was his son who was named, Dee Wees! I still don't know anything about the Howell family of my great grandmother. Thanks again! Just maybe you'll know something about this family. egniwri@aol.com

    2. Thanks for the response! I know of no Irwins with this name. I know of no Howells with this name. The first son had to be named for someone. "Dee Wees". The first daughter was "Willie" for her father, "William". The second daughter was "Jessie". In our family, she had to be named for someone. And I think it must be in the Howell family, that these names came. Someday! egniwri@aol.com

    3. Hello Jeany: The 1860 Census for Lauderdale County, Alabama only lists one child, a son William (5). He would probably not be old enough in 1868 to have fathered the child, born in 1868. The obituary for Alice Beatrice Howell Thomas in the Florence paper says: Nov. 19, 1908 Mrs. Beatrice Howell Thomas, wife of J.B. Thomas. .......... the adopted daughter of David Howell of this city. NOTE: Adopted daughter Nov. 20, 1908 ........ Mrs. J.B. Thomas (nee Alice Howell) ................ Nov. 20, 1908 Mrs. Beatrice Thomas, wife of Mr. Jas. B. Thomas .............. Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of Mr. David Howell Alice Beatrice Howell may have been Mary A. Wright. See below. 1860 Lauderdale County, Alabama Census HOWELL David 31 M Sarah 23 F (This is Sarah Margaret Williams) William 5 M 1870 Census of Hardin County, Tennessee HOWELL David 43 M Sarah 34 F William 15 M Lillie 9 F (I think she married a Meadows) Wright, Mary A. 3 F 1880 Census Hardin County, Tennessee HOWELL D.W. M 50 self Alice F 13 daughter Bob M 20 other (This person unknown to me) Alice Beatrice Howell could have been Mary A. Wright. 3. Steve, Since Lauderdale and Hardin co. are right next to each other, I would think that one of the counties would have a probate record where Alice was warded to or adopted to D.W. Howell. Have you checked in the surrounding counties? Have you posted to the Thomas list? Someone there might recognize something. Keith Bailey
