    2. Interesting - the name Cinderella! Did anyone see the Martha Stewart show this morning? I didn't but a friend called to say that they showed old quilts, including one pieced by Cinderella Howell in Bayshore, Long Island NY about 1872. The quilt was signed by her, and was in very good condition, considering its age. 3. Sorry it was no help I am kind of hardened to this sort of thing when looking for Howells After you hit the brickwall nothing seems to help My brick wall is with a Stanford Howell born in Ill. in 1832 Married Adeline Northrup in Oregon in 1862 He was my ggrand father If you go to the referance you will note a Stanford Howell in that family I have not been able to prove he is the one, even though I know he lived in Oregon City at the right time That is why I knew about Caswell Good hunting ----- Original Message ----- From: <SHStu@aol.com> To: <HOWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 24, 2004 12:20 PM Subject: [HOWELL] Re: Ark info on a CASWELL HOWELL > In a message dated 1/23/2004 9:00:50 AM Eastern Standard Time, > HOWELL-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: > > > X-Message: #2 > > Date: Thu, 22 Jan 2004 21:18:33 -0500 > > From: "rpotter" <rpotter20@comcast.net> > > To: HOWELL-L@rootsweb.com > > Message-ID: <001901c3e157$342eea00$ae9b3b44@net.frtprk01.fl.comcast.net> > > Subject: Re: [HOWELL] Re: HOWELL-D Digest V04 #14 > > Content-Type: text/plain; > > charset="iso-8859-1" > > Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > > > > If you will go to Howell Research Room 1850 Washington County,Arkansas > > page 335B,line #19,House #99,Family #99 > > You will find a James E Howell family with Twin boys > > Caswell and Preston age one > > Maybe this will help > > Good hunting > > RPotter - thanks for those - will have to check that particular one but there > seem to be several CASWELL HOWELLs that are not mine.....Mine was supposedly > b in NC, 1820 maybe Wake Co - in 1850 Thomas Co, GA Census - he was in a MARY > ALLEN's household along w/his wife & 6 ch.....his bro, BARNEY B. HOWELL, who also came down into GA w/him & married in GA was in the house next door. So from 1850 I've got him......there was a CASWELL HOWELL & a BARNEY or BARNABUS HOWELL in the Greene Co, NC 1815 Tax list - but this was before mine were born - Each one had 1 poll tax .......Supposedly, according to old info from 1919 book, (tho not proven,) my HOWELLs were in Edgecomb & Greene Cos, NC back earlier.....There were also CASWELLs there in those areas, so whether there was an old connection between the HOWELLs & the CASWELLs or whether the name could have come about from friendship between the 2 families or from the Gov Richard Caswell's name is still up for speculation...... I do know that there are usually so many ch in these HOWELL families that it makes sorting them out very, very difficult - but doesn't stop any of us from trying.... Many thanks for that bit & will go back to the Research Room to take a look... (Just caught your email - or you in my area? Comcast is our cable system & some I know use comcast DSL.....)
