    3. Millie Alexander here - thanks again to Dana - I am at a block wall on my HOWELL family, so any bit of information would help please: John HOWELL, b. 27, April 1860 near Usk, Monmouthshire, England and came to U.S. with parents ? & Mary Jane Howell and possibly 6-7 other children. They landed in New York from Liverpool around September, 1860 and traveled by covered wagon to Nebraska. In 1881 he described that he was 21 years old and had a brother, Matthew Howell who was a State Senator in Nebraska. He married Esther Montgomery from Warwick England around 1891 and their first child, Bertha Jane was born 1892 at McCool Junction, York Co. Nebraska. They then moved to Oxford, NE Harlan Co. later on and more children were born there. I need to know more about his family, as I do not have names except for Matthew and there was a sister named Ann. If anyone has a connection about this family in Nebraska, please contact me. Millie - ishkani@ibm.net

    2. Jean Smallwood
    3. Searching for HOWELL, John W. born about 1810, maybe VA, married Mary HILL (widow of Thomas LILLARD) in Livingston Co., KY 1852. This family is found in the 1860 census Haradin Co., IL with children George W., John, James B., Mary J. Their son George W. was born in Lyon Co., KY. Believe James B. was born in Crittenden Co., KY about 1859. Mary J. born about 1849 may have been a child from Mary Hill and Thomas Lillard. George W. may have married a Carrie GILBERT and moved to Missouri. James B(luford) married a Mary Ellen (Mollie) Long in Crittenden Co. The rest of the family disappears after the 1860 census. Any information would be very much appreciated. Jean Smallwood E-Mail: jeansmal@ix.netcom.com Home Page: http://www.netcom.com/~jeansmal/genhome.html

    1. HOWELL, VA, TN, TX
    2. I am looking for Robert Henry HOWELL b. March 7, 1788 who married Dorothy V. BRIGGS on July 6, 1813 in Powhatan County, VA and moved to Spring Place GA in 1814, then on to McMinn Co., TN by 1820's. Robert Henry died in McMinn County, TN January 30, 1834. His son Robert Nathaniel Henry Howell married Elizabeth NICHOLSON and they moved to TX by mid 1850's. They were in Smith County, TX until late 1870's when they moved to Comanche County where he stayed until his death in 1896. I am stuck in TN, cannot make the connection to Robert Henry Howell in VA or to his parents. We have located Dorothy's ancestry all the way back and allied families but are stuck on Robert Henry Howell. So any help would be appreciated. 1. From listowner.....Please read!
    2. Okay folks, this is going to be hard to get used to...I have already been unsubbed from one of my own list in less than a day of it being back up. If you get unsubbed please don't take it personally. Just re-sub. That's what I did. Second, and I've already made this mistake too, the automatic reply to the list is new. I had it set to where when we replied it went to the person who sent in the query and not to the whole list. Now, I'm sure that there is a way to change this but the people doing the switch over are so busy right now I'm not going to ask them to do it and I don't know how or if it's something I can do. I'm working on finding that out. Until then let's all try and remember to send it to the person who sent it unless it is something the whole list can benefit from. Also, let's all try and be patient when people like me forget and don't do this. My last list went up at around midnight so I'm still working on making sure everyone got transferred over. Sooo...I'm still rather busy but as soon as it slows down I'll start trying to send some informative notes on how to use the lists. In the meantime please refer to the welcome letter and if it doesn't cover it you might try this web site: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/members/guidelines.html If you still have questions send them to me and I'll try and find something out. Now, let's get back to what we all love...genealogy! Glad we're back, Dana listowner

    1. HOWELL--We're Back!!!
    2. Great news everyone...We're Back!!!! If you recieve this notice you are already subscribed to the NEW rootsweb HOWELL e-mail list so there is no need to resub. If however you have chosen to leave us the instructions for unsubbing follows. For those of you who are staying with us this is your new welcome letter. Please replace the old Maiser one with this one. Welcome to the HOWELL Family list. I'm Dana Thomas, your list owner. ************* Please read, print and save this message as it has important information in it that will save ALL of us a lot of headaches if you do. ************* If you have persistent problems, contact me direct at: TreeCrazyD@aol.com! ************* WHAT IS THIS LIST? This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in genealogy related to the HOWELL surname. ************* MESSAGES TO THE LIST The list is not moderated. Any message sent to it is automatically sent out to EVERYONE on the list. While I in no way want to stifle free discussion, as list owner I reserve the right to step in if a flame war erupts that becomes tedious for other subscribers, or if someone becomes unseemly (excessive use of profanity, for instance). ************* FILE ATTACHMENTS Please do not intentionally send attachment with list mail. Most mail packages have a feature that allows you to "attach" files such as a word processing file. These will be encoded and need to be decoded at the receiving end; they may also be large. These can cause some users' machines to lock up - so just say no to attachments, please. Simply put these attached files can cause some computer to lock up during e-mail retrieval. Please remember, just because you may be able to receive these files some of our members can't. ************* PERSONAL MAIL and CHATTING If you have a personal message for someone, please send it to their address, not the list server address. Any mail sent to HOWELL-L will automatically be sent to EVERYONE on the list. ************* SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE PLEASE SAVE THIS MESSAGE. To subscribe to the list, send a message to HOWELL-L-request@rootsweb.com and put SUBSCRIBE in the body of the message (not the subject line - anything you put in the subject line is ignored). You DO NOT have to leave the subject line blank. It is IGNORED except to quote it back to you if there is an error. You DO HAVE to turn off any signature lines/files. To unsubscribe, send a message to HOWELL-L-request@rootsweb.com with UNSUBSCRIBE in the body. Do not send these sub and unsub messages to the list. ************* POSTING A MESSAGE To post a message to the list, send it to HOWELL-L@rootsweb.com ************* A digest is several messages bundled together and sent all at once. You can set digest mode by unsubscribing to HOWELL-L@rootsweb.com and subscribing to HOWELL-D@rootsweb.com. ************* Thanks. Again Welcome to the list. HOWELL list owner, Dana Thomas (TreeCrazyD@aol.com)
