For HOWELL-L web page, see: http://members.aol.com/TreeCrazyD/howell_l.html Kevin Quick operates a web site with wonderful photos of the churchs and villages of Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. A week or two ago I suggested to him that the descendants of Edward Howell would enjoy seeing Westbury Manor, the ancestral home. My records show that Howells lived there from 1536 to 1638. Here's Kevin's response: >I'm sorry for the delay in replying, but I knew that I would be in the >vacinity of Marsh Gibbon and hoped to take a photo of Westbury Manor, >before emailing you. I can now tell you that I have taken two photos of >the manor, and that these have been scanned and placed on the web. >Links to the photos can be found at the following URL: > >http://met.open.ac.uk/group/kaq/village.htm > >The photos are listed under Marsh Gibbon. > >I have also found in a book I have at home a description of Westbury >Manor which may be of interest to you. The book (in fact 2 volumes) are >entitled "The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (England) - >Buckinghamshire", published in 1913. In the volume on the northern half >of Buckinghamshire there is a brief description of Westbury manor, as >it stood at the time of publication. It reads as follows: > >"... Westbury Manor, house and moat, 1/4 mile S.W. of the church. The >house is of two storeys and an attic, and of stone partly covered with >roughcast; the roofs are tiled. It was built in the 17th century on an >L-shaped plan, but has been recently almost completely altered. On the >S. side there are old wood lintels over some of the windows. Interior:- >The staircase is of 17th century, with turned balustersand a moulded >rail. > >The only remains of the Moat are two ponds and slight indications of a >ditch in the field S. of the house." > >Best wishes > >Kevin > >k.a.quick@open.ac.uk > Bill Wilson Mill Valley, California wdwilson@netwizards.net
