Does anyone out there have any information on Pleasant Howell who married Sarah/Sally Barns in Roane County, Tn. They married in 1845. Am trying to determine the parents of Pleasant. I "think" it is James & Lavinia (Payne/Clayton) Howell of Bath County, Va. James & Lavinia were married in Bath County in the 1820's. Pleasant was born in about 1828. Roane County, Tn Census records show a Vina/Lavinia in the household with Pleasant & Sarah during 1850 & 1860. Later she resided with Pleasant's daughter, Amanda Howell Buchanan, in Polk County, Tn. Any information on this line would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Sorry if this is a repeat to any of my lists but apparently I got unsubbed from some of my own lists.<G> Hello everyone, there seems to be some problems with the new archive system passwords. I had thought of contacting the person who is working on this project but since he is so busy I didn't want to bother him. The latest news is that there will be no passwords in the future. For now you can still access the archives via e-mail. Here's how it works: (Please read carefully, you will be writing to the same computer that does the subs and unsubs so it will be very particular as to the message you send.) Send an e-mail addresses to ????-D-request@rootsweb.com (replace the ??? with the name of the list you want archives for.) archive Goes in the Subject Line. LS volume97 Goes in the Message.. You will get back a list that has several columns of numbers like this: -rw-rw---- 1 slist slist 6969 May 27 08:59 1 Look thru the list, and see what digest number you want, and fill out another e-mail to: ????-D-request@rootsweb.com (replace the ??? with the name of the list you want archives for.) archive Goes in the Subject Line. get volume97/1 Goes in the Message.. Bob, Bob <G>) and all, The folks at RootsWeb have asked everyone either NOT to add surnames to taglines or else to do something like separating them with spaces. This is because in the not-too-distant future there will be a very powerful search engine at RootsWeb which will allow the searching of both header and body text for surnames, etc. If you post 100 times a year with your SMITH surname listed in the tagline on RootsWeb mailing lists, then that's 100 bogus hits that someone searching for real SMITH information will have to wade through. Multiply that by the number of people who might put SMITH on their tagline and you can understand that the whole search process would become an excercize in futility. So those "spaced" surnames are highly appropriate. Phil ************************* So I Guess no spaces loses the vote having been vetoed. Sorry if I've upset the apple cart but this is not A FLAME as some would think. It is very serious business. Perhaps we ougt to get our collective heads together and come up with a soultion that would at least satisfy the majority. Reminds me of my Grandfather who bought a Mule from the neighbor for five bucks thinking he'd got a bargain but he seconds thoughts when the seller handed him a pick axe handle. I have two HOWELL women who married into my CARPENTER family in Lawrence and Copiah Co., MS in the early 1800s. They are: Catherine HOWELL (b. 1810, TN) m. 20 Nov 1827, Lawrence or Copiah Co., MS Martin CARPENTER (b. 1798, GA), s/o Temple CARPENTER and Hannah NEWTON Mary Ann Elizabeth HOWELL (b. 1800-1810) m. 6 Dec 1835, Copiah Co., MS Solomon CARPENTER (b. ~1794, GA), s/o Temple CARPENTER and Hannah NEWTON These two HOWELL women may be sisters, but do not know for sure. This CARPENTER line had been settled in Cumberland and Anson (Moore and Montgomery) Co., NC by the 1760s, moved to Franklin Co., GA in the 1790s, and on to Lawrence/Copiah Co., MS in the 1810s. It is possible CARPENTER and HOWELL go all the way back to NC together or even earlier, although it appears that atleast Catherine's line went through TN. Appreciate anything anybody can tell me about this (or these) HOWELL line(s). Have plenty of data on CARPENTER and related families if it is of any use. By 1870, Sarah/Sally was in Polk County, Tn with children, but without Pleasant. The rumor is that he fought in Civil War, but I have nothing to document this. OK, maybe this is a long shot, but the name COATS jumped out at me. I have a FANNY HOWELL (1794 NC - aft 1870 prob Butler Co, AL) m. GEORGE VICKREY (abt 1795 SC - d 1852 Butler Co, AL). They had 9 children, born mostly in Lancaster Co, SC before they moved near Greenville, Butler Co,AL in mid 1830's. Their son ELIHU (1825 SC - 1905 Trinity Co, TX) moved to Texas after his wife & daughters died in mid-1850's. There he married Elizabeth White- Groce. The 1860 census in Nacogdoches Co, TX shows Elihu Vickrey, 35, Carriage maker, then his family, then "N.B. COATS, 22, Wagon & Carriage Maker, b AL". I have tried to find who this COATS was, and did he come with Vickrey to Texas. Some of Elihu's Seale & Sims cousin moved to TX abt this time as well, and twenty years later Elihu's son married Fanny Parmer who's family left Greenville to Trinity Co, TX in 1880's. I know this make a big circle, but the COATS name may ties my family with this one.
