    3. Looking for information on Levina (Lavenia/Viney) Howell. Listed on Malachi Howell's will . Levina was born about 1802. She is mentioned several times on Roane County, Tn records. In 1850 & 1860, she is living with Pleasant & Sarah/Sally Barns Howell in Roane County. She is the mother of Pleasant. Can anyone tell me if she is the daughter of Malachi, or who her husband was. 2. Rootsman57
    3. I think those of you that have FTM will be able to use this one. The following is a note I sent to Broderbund the makers of Family Tree Maker, and the response they gave me. I hope I didn't leave anybody out, pass it along. Jerry Subj: To Rootsman57 Date: 97-12-02 04:36:32 EST From: BBS1 >>A cousin of mine sent me a .FTW file from version 4.0 I have 3.01. It wouldn't open in family tree maker and told me to upgrade. My thing about this is what good is 4.0 if knowbody else can open a file sent from it? I realize that they can send it gedcom but I would rather use .FTW format. Is there a patch to download that will work around this problem. With my 3.01 I can send .ftw file to anybody that has it and they can open it ( not sure about 4.0). I've been using this genealogy program for a long time and consider it the best. People dont always have the money to upgrade right away especially just to recieve files from the people that do. Please help in this matter and thankyou for letting me bring it to your attantion!<< Gerald, Have your cousin send you the file in a Family Tree Maker version 3 format. This is done by going to the File menu, choosing Copy/Export Family File and changing the File forat (or Save as type) to Family Tree Maker version 3 for Win/Mac. You should then be able to use that file in your version. I hope this helps. Please include this entire message in any response you make. 1. [HOWELL-L] Fwd: Howell, John of Ham House, Surrey and Middlesex, England
    2. I have been lurking with this group for a couple of months now. Most of you seem to be involved with the American branches of the Howells. Is there anyone who knows anything about the Middlesex/Surrey, England, branch? John Howell was apparently born at Thames Ditton, London, 21 Dec.1806. His family is unkown and I would like contact with anyone who has knowledge of this branch. He later worked at Ham House, Surrey, and then emigrated to New Zealand with his wife Ann Cordery (m.1829) in 1841. The NZ branch of the family has been well documented. Any response will be appreciated. 1. [HOWELL-L] From list owner please read
    2. TreeCrazyD
    3. Hello everyone, It's been awhile since I sent out a reminder notice and from the looks of all the error messages I've been getting I can tell. Just a few quick reminders and notices so PLEASE read completely and carefully. First, the passwords to some of my lists' archives don't seem to be working and many of you have expressed how complicated it is to send for the archives via e-mail-- SOLUTION: Please be patient as the rootsweb folks are working on a new system that will allow us to search the archives without a password. It seems however, that since they will be searchable we NEED to be extremely careful as to the content of our messages ie copywrited material, names of living relatives, addresses, etc. PLEASE keep this in mind when posting to the list. Second, there has been a rash of folks sending queries to the command address. Please send queries to the list address only and NOT to the yourlist-L-request@rootsweb.com address the list address is: yourlist-L@rootsweb.com NOTE: don't put the request in the address if it's not a subscribe, unsubscribe or archive retrieval command. Third, if you're not sure whether you're on the list anymore PLEASE post a query (not a "test" message but a query) to the list and wait to see if you receive a copy. Unless you don't receive a copy PLEASE don't resubscribe! Fourth, PLEASE don't send attachments or HTML written (If you turn off `Rich Text Format' or its equivalent posting option in your browser, that should solve the problem) queries to the list address. Now, that's pretty much it. I hope you all will please help me out by following the guidelines listed above. If you have questions on errors please see this web page: http://members.aol.com/TreeCrazyD/error.html Thank you, Dana Thomas list owner ==== HOWELL Mailing List ==== To unsub or for more info on the HOWELL list please see: http://members.aol.com/TreeCrazyD/howell_l.html Note: that is HOWELL _L just like in the list name. 3. Howell, Pleasant, born about 1828, supposedly in Tennessee, according to Census records. Pleasant married Sarah/Sallie Barns in 1845 in Roane County. Mother is Lavina/Viney Howell. Can anyone tell me who the father is? Pleasant & family are in Roane County in 1850 & 1860, and living next door is Benjamin & Tempy Howell. I think Benjamin is the brother-in-law (or possibly brother) to Lavina/Viney Howell. Also, they are probably related to Malachi Howell, son of the Benjamin Howell born in abt 1753, in NC, later lived in Grainger County, Tn. Malachi lived in Roane County, Tn from 1820's until his death. Any information on this family would be appreciated. Thank You.
